process itself to improve learning outcomes.

What is the student learning goal for this lesson idea?

Students will determine two or more main ideas of a text and explain how they are
supported by key details.
Students will create multiple representations by using Sway.

Selected Basic Productivity Tool: Sway

URL(s) to support the lesson (if applicable): Provide multiple representation.

Bloom’s Digital Taxonomy Level(s):

How will this lesson be implemented? Check all that apply.

☐ Teacher-directed: There is no student voice and choice in the activities. Students are guided by the
teacher's direction and expectations.

☐ Student-Led: Students are given voice and choice in the activities. They may select the topic for
presentation and/or determine the tool they will use to meet the learning goal. Products of
learning will be uniquely designed. Teacher simply facilitates the learning in a lesson like this.

☐ Project-based and/or Publishable: Students are completing projects to demonstrate their learning
and the projects can be shared outside of the classroom. This objective could be reached by
displaying the project on the school’s morning newscast, posting the project to the classroom
blog, presenting it to another class, or publishing it via an outside source.

Lesson idea implementation:

First, I will talk about our standard and explain our goals for this lesson. I will ask students
how to stay safe during a thunderstorm. I would ask students to draw a graphic organizer of

ice-cream. The details are like scoops of ice cream. They support the main idea. Students can
use different colors to cover the scoops. The main idea is like the cone. It is the main thing
that holds the details in place.
Second, I will introduce Sway. I will show my Sway How to Stay Safe During Thunderstorms as
an example to students and ask students to determine two or more main ideas of the text
and explain how they are supported by key details. I will introduce Sway and teach students
how to use Sway to create interactive and engaging presentations about how to keep safe
during a thunderstorm. I will divide the classroom up into 5 groups and let students work
together, each group will have about 8 minutes to complete the presentation. I will walk
around in the classroom and offer help if they need it.
Third, I will give them verbal feedback before I move to the next group. I will ask students to
highlight the key details that supported the main ideas by a text highlighting on Sway.
In the end, I will conclude the lesson by asking students what they learned and what they
think about reading challenging.
Managing the technology/engagement: Describe a way to use this technology in a way that
gets students actively involved in authentic tasks and contexts? How will you manage the
classroom behaviors on the technology:
Sway is a digital storytelling and presentation tool from Microsoft. Students can create
interactive and engaging presentations, newsletters, digital portfolios, reports, and digital
storytelling. Sway allows for collaboration between multiple students which will help
students easily to work together and be motivated. Some students work better with their
classmates so I will provide co-engagement with the technology and offer students the
opportunity to Ask 3, Then me when they need help.

Universal Design for Learning (UDL):

Sway allows students to create visually appealing and interactive presentations for their class
assignments and digital storytelling. They can add audio, pictures, videos, and texts to
enhance their presentations. This meets the UDL principle of multiple means of
representation.
Reflecting on enhanced learning:
I believe that students can explore by using Sway that will motivate and engage them. I think
that I divide the classroom up into 5 groups to work together to create interactive
presentations using Sway, they share their ideas to enhance the learning experience and
make the content more engaging. This meets the UDL principle of engagement.
