1. The difference between UK, Great Britain, and England

a. The UK, which stands for the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern
Ireland, is a political union of the nations of England, Scotland, Wales, and
Northern Ireland. It is a sovereign state. Despite the fact that these nations
have their own local governments and autonomy, they are not regarded as
sovereign states. This implies that, for instance, the Scottish legislature cannot
declare war or negotiate international treaties.
b. Great Britain is a large island on which most of England, Scotland, and Wales
are located. Geographically, it lies to the east of the smaller island of Ireland,
which is made up of the independent Republic of Ireland and the separate,
sovereign state known as Northern Ireland.
c. England is one of the four countries that make up the sovereign nation of the
UK. Geographically, England includes both the center and the south of the
United Kingdom. England, like the other three members of the UK, is not a
sovereign state and is therefore unable to engage independently in
international affairs. London, England, serves as the capital of the national
government of the UK, which is perhaps one of the explanations for how
frequently people confuse England with the entire UK. Even while England
has had and continues to have a substantial political impact, the country's
political decisions are not solely determined by it.

2. According to the people’s activities, the densely populated areas are in the Southern
part of Britain.
- It is true that England is more densely populated than Wales, Scotland, and
Northern Ireland as it is located in the Southern part of Britain, and the density
is also high in southern England due to the less harsh climate and the close
proximity to the capital, London. The city has many industries and is a global
finance center. In 2021, the city was also estimated to have the population of
8.8 million people.

- Geographically, Great Britain is located between the North Atlantic and the
North Sea, near the north-west coast of France. Even though Britain is
surrounded by four seas which are the English Channel, the North Sea, the
Irish Sea, and the Atlantic Ocean, coastal activities are not the main preference
especially nowadays. Instead, Great Britain citizens mostly work in industry,
transport systems, agriculture, forestry, and energy supplies. Coastal activities
might still become a great choice for some Briton but still cannot be the most
preferred activities.

3. Climate is becoming the main topic of discussion among the british people. Why?
Discuss!
- The UK has experienced the effects of increasing temperature sice 2002. The
most recent twenty years have generally been 0.8-1.2 °C warmer than the
average between 1961 and 1990. Despite being an island nation, the United
Kingdom is not immune to heat waves. In fact, over the last few years there
have been a number of prolonged periods of warm weather, with temperatures
consistently reaching into the high twenties or even low thirties Celsius. Yet,
despite the increasing warmth, air-conditioning remains relatively rare in
Britai due to the geography of Great Britain. This causes massive stress to the
brits, during summer they have to survive in a house that is built with thick
walls and no air conditioning system despite the room temperature level has
reached 30 degrees celsius or more. Climate change is making heatwaves in
the UK more likely and more extreme.

4. Britain is a highly homogeneous country in which suggestions of a north-south divide,

or of a great disparity between rich and poor, are exaggerated
- Since the beginning of English history, there has been an annulment of the
north-south division. The north had more difficulties than the south. One of
the factors causing this tension is the life expectancy of the residents. Life
expectancy has increased in London compared to the rest of the country. In
contrast, it has increased the least in the Northeast and has actually fallen in
the most lagging parts of the region. Not only is there a problem with life
expectancy, but also with transportation and education, which explains why
the northern region lags behind the rest of England.

5. Discuss in group by choosing one of the topics why it was differentiated:

- Town
People often get confused in differentiating city and town since both terms
indeed have almost unnoticeable differences. However, cities and towns can
be differentiated physically from their population. The population growth in
cities was usually higher than in towns. In short, towns in Britain are
associated as a populated area with fixed boundaries and a local government,
while cities are the same but larger or probably earlier were also called towns
but as it had a more important role for the growth of the country so it is now
called as cities.
Another difference is that a city usually has its own catedral, university, and a
particular form of government. While towns can be described as places where
people live and work, with many houses, shops, workplaces, entertainments,
etc., and they are usually larger than villages but smaller than cities. A town
can become a city if the town reaches a minimum population of 300,000 and
the status is given by the monarch.
