THE HOLY MASS

 Mass, the central act of worship of the Roman Catholic Church, which culminates in celebration of the
sacrament of the Eucharist.
 The mass is at once a memorial and a sacrifice. In the eucharistic prayer, the church commemorates Jesus Christ
and his redeeming work, especially his sacrifice for the sake of all humankind through his crucifixion.
 The Holy Mass is the Sacrifice of the Body and Blood of Jesus Christ offered on our altars under the appearances
of bread and wine, in commemoration of the Sacrifice of the Cross

Why is it called the Holy Mass?

 The name comes from the Latin word missa. In Latin the Mass ended with Ite missa est which translated into
English means “Go, it is sent,” the “it” being the Church. The Mass gets its name from the liturgical dismissal at

Why is it called communion?

Communion comes from the Latin word “communionem,'' meaning “fellowship'' or sharing something together. We are
in communion as a community joining with God. We believe the Church is His Body, and He is the head. The word
Eucharist is derived from the Greek word for Thanksgiving.

What do you eat during Communion?

Sacramental bread, also called Communion bread, the Lamb or simply the host (Latin: hostia, lit. 'sacrificial victim'), is
the bread used in the Christian ritual of the Eucharist. lit. (thanksgiving)

What happens during the consecration?

By the consecration, the transubstantiation of the bread and wine into the Body and Blood of Christ is brought about.
Under the consecrated species of bread and wine, Christ himself, living and glorious, is present in a true, real, and
substantial manner, with his Body, his Blood, his soul and his divinity

Phenomena before sharing the host
