5 PRESIDENTS OF THE PHILIPPINES

Emilio aguinaldo (1897-1901)


Contribution
● fought for a free and independent Philippines, first against
Spain and then against the United States.
● He led the Filipino revolt against Spain in 1896, fighting with a
collection of barefoot peasants.
● He led the assault against the Spanish garrison in Kawit and
overcame its commandant in hand‐to‐hand combat.
● As the revolutionary, he defeated the army of Governor General
Blanco in Cavite when the revolution had started. He is also the
leader of revolutionaries in Cavite
● As the president, he ordered the creation of the Philippine flag
and composition of the national anthem, and declared the
nation’s independence from Spain on June 12, 1898.

Leadership Style
As a president he is very practical, down to earth with strong ideas about right and
wrong. He is orderly, organized, systematic and controlled, and once committed - he
employs decisive and methodical steps to problem solving, without giving up easily.

Ramon Magsaysay

● born Aug. 31, 1907, Iba, Phil.—died March 17, 1957


● president of the Philippines (1953–57), best known for successfully defeating the
communist-led Hukbalahap (Huk) movement.
● The son of an artisan, Magsaysay was a schoolteacher in the provincial town of
Iba on the island of Luzon.
● recognizing his term Golden Years. Honest man and if he didn't die, he could
have made Philippines Better
● A war hero.
● His regime was the cleanest and was almost corruption free.
● No favoritism and No one is above law during his time.
Leadership style

● His objective was to improve the lot of his fellow Filipinos and he approached the
task with selfless devotion.
● As defined, “Servant Leadership” fairly describes Ramon Magsaysay’s own kind
of leadership and presidency. Very early in his term he said: “We are all servants
of the people.”
● He was convinced that the government, to last and to be sound, must have
integrity and reflect the will of the people.

Manuel L. Quezon (2nd President)


● Filipino statesman, soldier, and politician who served as
president of the Commonwealth of the Philippines from 1935 to
1944.
● Manuel Luis Quezon y Molina, (born August 19, 1878, Baler,
Philippines—died August 1, 1944)
● The “ Star of Baler “ shone as the First President of the
Commonwealth after his brilliant performance as the First
Senate President.
● He was a dynamic Filipino leader and a true friend of the poor
and the oppressed whom he loved and cared so well. Quezon
is one of the most illustrious sons our country has ever
produced.
ACHIEVEMENT
● His most significant achievement was the passage of the Jones
Act that provided for the grant of Philippine independence.
● He was elected senator in 1916 and eventually became Senate
President.
● He headed the first Independence Mission to the U.S.
Congress, and brought home the Tydings-McDuffie
Independence Law in 1934.
● he reorganized the islands’ military defense
● -ackled the huge problem of landless peasants in the countryside who still
worked
● as tenants on large estates
● -promoted the settlement and development of the large southern island of
● Mindanao
● -fought graft and corruption in the government. A new national capital, later

He is considered Bright but lazy. But when he joined the revolution against the
Spaniards showcase his brave and quick-tempered way of fighting.

Sergio Osmeña (4th President)


● Sergio Osmeña was Vice President under Manuel L. Quezon,
and rose to the Presidency upon Quezon's death in 1944.
● Osmeña became president of the Commonwealth on Quezon's
death in 1944. He returned to the Philippines the same year
with General Douglas MacArthur and the liberation forces. After
the war, Osmeña restored the Commonwealth government and
the various executive departments.

Manuel Roxas (5th President)


Contribution
● During his term, he displayed profound statesmanship and
intelligence, making his mark as a master of economics.
● He was among the “ seven wise men “ who drew up the
Constitutional Convention and accordingly became the last of
the Commonwealth presidents and the first for the Republic of
the Philippines.
● When the Pacific War broke out, he displayed more of his
multi-faceted characters when he volunteered for military
service in defense of the country.
● He served in various other tasks in the interest of the Filipinos.
● An undisputed pillar of Philippine democracy, his selfless
dedication to his country’s political and economic development
is a timeless virtue worthy of emulation even by succeeding
generations.
