This operating manual is an additional specification for the MEAG operating
manual for the respective type of scale. It includes the description of the operat-
ing elements and of the additional parameters and alarms for the bagging.

In addition to these instructions, observe the operating manual for the respec-
tive type of scale.

1.5 Personnel qualification
1.5.1 Operating personnel

Individuals who operate the machine must be technically qualified or have com-
pleted the training by the Bühler Group.

1.5.2 Service technicians

Individuals who are responsible for the administration of the control must be
technically qualified or have completed the training by the Bühler Group.

1.6 Technical terms


Technical term Meaning
MEAG-P Combined scale and bagging control based on MEAG hard-
ware and software components. The MEAG display with the
extended keyboard is used to operate the control system.
BAG MEAG type for a single MSDB or MWBB hopper scale or
for an MWBW or MWPF-W bagging station.
BAG2 MEAG type for an MSDB-D or MWBB double hopper scale.
With this type of scale, double bagging capacity is reached
using the alternating dumpings.
BAGD1 MEAG type for an individual MWBC differential bagging
scale or an MWBI differential feed scale.
BAGD3 MEAG type for a triple scale system with MWBC differential
bagging scales or a MWBI differential feed scale. Thereby,
2 scales act as coarse feed scales and one scale acts as a
fine-feed. The system is also possible as double scale sys-
tem with one coarse-feed and one fine-feed scale.
EBD 1312 MEAG electronics (basic print; electronics module with pro-
cessor).
EBD 1314 MEAG extended keyboard (electronics module with addition-
al function keys in the control cabinet).
EBD 1316 MEAG Display (electronics module with display in the con-
trol cabinet).
EBD 1318 CAN IO expansion module with 12 digital inputs/outputs. Ac-
cording to the extent of the bagging control, a different num-
ber of these modules may be present (electronics module
in the control cabinet).
EBD 1319 CAN LC display (load cells) with an AD converter for the
weighing signal and 8 digital inputs/outputs. One module is
available per scale (electronics module is attached to the
scales).

2.1 Part of the operating instructions
These instructions are an integral part of the respective operating instructions.

Lack of knowledge of the operating instructions may lead to the risk of malfunc-
tions or impairments of the product.

► Pay attention to the instructions and respective operating instructions.

2.2 Technical condition


If the control system is operated when defective, then safety, function and avail-
ability will be impaired.

► Only operate the control system when in a perfect technical condition.


► Only operate the machine when the protection devices are functioning. See
respective operating instructions.
► Comply with the maintenance schedule.
► Only use original spare parts.
► If the operating behavior of the machine changes, check the machine for
faults.
► Rectify faults immediately.
► Do not modify or alter the control system without authorization.

2.3 Personnel qualification


Unqualified personnel cannot recognize risks and are thus exposed to greater
danger.

► Only charge qualified personnel with tasks described in these operating in-
structions.
► Ensure that personnel comply with the local laws and regulations in order to
work safely, keeping the dangers in mind.
► Define and communicate work responsibilities. Provide keys and passwords
to designated staff only.

3 Description
3.1 Operating principle
The MEAG-P bagging control controls a bagging system. It is based on the
hardware and software components of the MEAG scale control unit. The “P” in
the designation means bagging (packer).

3.2 Design
The additional control unit is comprised of 3 parts.

3.2.1 Control cabinet

The control cabinet is assembled close to the bagging system.

It contains the following elements:

■ Master switch
■ Power supply
■ Safety elements
■ Motor outflow relays or frequency converters
■ Relay circuits
■ MEAG electronics
■ IO expansion module EBD 1320
■ Interface for plant control system

3.2.2 Control cabinet

The control cabinet is assembled in the bagging system.

It contains the EBD 1314 and EBD 1316 operating elements. See page 7,
chapter “Operating elements”.

The operation is connected with the MEAG electronics via RS-485.

3.2.3 LC module

Each scale contains one LC module. The LCs, valves and probes are connect-
ed to the load cell module.

The LC module is connected with the MEAG electronics via a CAN bus.

4.1 Operating elements
The control cabinet contains:

Switching off/Switching on the control voltage 24 V and thus the
entire bagging
(3) 35S2 Start bagging
Starting the entire bagging system (filling scale, release packer,
starting the closing belt). Starting is possible only if the “release
bagging” input is present and no alarm is present.
The key is illuminated once the bagging has started.

(4) 35S3 Stopping the bagging process
Stopping is possible at any time. Initiated processes such as filling
the scale or turning the carousel are completed. The process
stops in two-stages.
Pressing the key for the first time = bagging stops without closing
belt. Key is flashing.
Pressing the key the second time = the closing belt stops. Key
lights up, when everything is stopped
(5) 35S4 Acknowledging alarms
Bagging is stopped if an alarm occurs. The bagging cannot be
started again until the alarm has been successfully acknowledged.
The key flashes the first time an alarm occurs.
The key lights up, if an alarm is still present after acknowledge-
ment. (Must be acknowledged later, if the alarm is no longer pres-
ent).
(6) 23S1 EMERGENCY STOP button
Immediate switch-off of all active elements (motors and valves).
All the initiated processes are interrupted immediately. Alarm A020
E STOP is displayed.
(7) 35P5 Alarm sensor (acoustic alarm)
The alarm sensor is activated when an alarm occurs for the first
time.
If the alarm was acknowledged with the <Alarm> key, then the
buzzer is deactivated.

The 10-key keypad is used to change all parameters.

■ Press .

■ Use
0 … 9 to enter number.


C deletes individual digits.

■ Confirm by pressing .

Parameters can also be changed using <S5> … <S8> of the display operating
elements (method without extended keyboard).

4.3 Function keys


The function keys supplement the operating elements.

Pressing
C at the same time accesses the dual functions of the function

keys:
C + F1 … C + F8 .

Key Label Description


F1 SILO Select Silo.
Selection of the silo that is used. The respective output is set.
Selecting 0 deselects the silos. The selection is possible only when there is
more than one silo and bagging is stopped. The selected silo is displayed with
LED of the 10-piece keyboard.
LED lights up, if a silo is selected.
F2 RECIPE Choose the recipe.
Recipes 1 ... 50 can be loaded. The selection is possible only when the bag-
ging is stopped. Scale in step 1 or 9.
LED is not used.
F3 BAG Pre-select the bag.
PRESE- The desired number of bags is selected. The bagging stops once the number
LECTION is reached.
If pre-selection of bag = 0 then the bagging continues endlessly. The selection
is possible only when the bagging is stopped.
LED lights up when bag preselection is operated.
F4 COM- Time for compacting the product in the bag.
PACT- LED is illuminated during the compacting time.
ING Bagging station with lateral bag shaker: The lateral bag shaker begins com-
TIME pacting the product in the bag as soon as the bag begins filling.
Single-spout bagging station without lateral bag shaker: The bag dump is de-
layed, so that the product can settle in the bag.
F5 RUN Empty the system.
SYS- Operating mode for running the entire plant (inclusive silo) until empty is acti-
TEM UN- vated/deactivated.
TIL EMP- It is deactivated automatically when the bagging is emptied and stopped or
TY when the job is completed.
LED is illuminated when <RUN SYSTEM UNTIL EMPTY> is activated.

The silo is deselected, the data is saved and the bag counter is cleared. Pos-
sible only with bagging stopped.
LED flashes once the bag pre-selection is accomplished.
F8 ROTA- Turn the carousel (MWPK, MWPL, MWPM).
TION The carousel executes a rotation. Also possible in case of a stopped bagging.
CAROU- LED flashes during the fast rotation.
SEL LED lights up during the slow rotation.
CON- Turn the conveyor screw (MWPU, MWPQ).
VEYOR Conveyor screw continues to turn as long as the key is pressed.
SCREW
ON
RUN- Run the mobile lateral bag shaker manually in operating or home position
NING (MWBW, MWPF-W).
THE LAT- LED flashes if the required position is not reached. For extending, press the
ERAL key.
BAG LED lights up once the lateral bag shaker is in operating position.
SHAKER
BAG Run the bag beater (MWPF-A/E).
BEATER Run the bag beater manually into operating position, use it for beating and
MANUAL move it back to home position.
LED flashes, if the required position is not reached (press key for extending).
LED lights up once the lateral bag shaker is in operating position.
C The “bulk loading” operating mode can be activated/deactivated.
The product is dosed in a tube. The carousel is not turned during bulk loading.

The bag clamps are not opened when a single-spout bagging station is used.
F1 Available only if bulk loading is configured.

C Sweeper on/off
The sweeper can be activated/deactivated. Available only in connection with

S2 Empty the scale.


Service function for manually emptying the scale. The scale continues to be
emptied as long as the key <S2> is pressed. Only emptying is carried out if
the bagging is stopped and the scale is not active (after the job is completed).
For double scale: Empty scale 1 with the <S2> key in parameter “WT1”. Emp-
ty scale 2 with the <S2> key in parameter “WT2”.

5 Configuration
5.1 Setting the application

Important
The base parameters are set Ex Works.
► To modify parameters, stop the control. Stop and end the job while doing
so.

1. Set the correct type of scale at the “SYS.TYP” parameter (see the operating
manual of the respective scale).
► MSDB, MWBB, MWBW, MWPF-W (single scale) hopper scale: Set BAG.
► Hopper scale MSDB, MWBB, MWBW (double scale): Set BAG2.
► Differential bagging scale MWBC, MWBI (single scale): Set BAGD1.
► Differential bagging scale MWBC, MWBI (triple scale system): Set
BAGD3.
→ The electronics are restarted automatically after the parameter is
changed.

2. Set parameter “TCON.PACK” = ON.


→ The “PACK” parameter group is activated and the electronics are restart-
ed automatically.

3. Configure the bagging with the parameters of the “TCON.PACK” parameter


group.
► Set the parameter according to the list in the schematic.

4. Turn the control off and back on once again.


→ All parameter changes become active. The respective IO modules are
addressed.

6 Parameters
6.1 Notes for the parameter details
The letter after “Step” indicates to what extent the corresponding parameter is
locked against modification when the input lock is activated. The following val-
ues apply:

Step Description
No information. Parameters are always adjustable.
C Parameters adjustable if calibration switch is on position CAL.
L Parameter adjustable if parameter LOCK = OFF.
Locked if parameter LOCK = LOW/MED/HIGH.
M Parameter adjustable if parameter LOCK = OFF/LOW.
Locked if parameter LOCK = MED/HIGH.
H Parameter adjustable if parameter LOCK = OFF/LOW/MED.
Locked if LOCK parameter = HIGH.
A Hide parameter if SYS.HIDE = ON.

The input lock is set with the “SYS.LOCK” parameter. It is deactivated by de-
fault. Please see operating manual for universal control unit MEAG.

6.2 Application parameters


6.2.1 USER (operating parameters) parameter group

The following parameters are displayed in addition to the normal parameters of


the scale in the “USER” parameter group. These additional parameters appear
if the parameter “TCON.PACK” = is ON.

The parameters can be controlled directly with the function keys on the extend-
ed keyboard. See page 9, chapter “Function keys”.

For parameters of the scale, see the operating manual of the respective BAG,
BAG2, BAGD1, BAGD3 scale.
