Diaprosim RD25 cooling water treatment

Engine type This Service Letter concerns WÄRTSILÄ® Vasa 14, 22ABC, 22HF, 22MD,
22/26, 24TS, 32, 32LN, WÄRTSILÄ® 20, 20DF, 32, 32GD, 32LNGD, 32DF,
34DF, 34SG, W34SG, 46, 46F, 46GD, 50DF and 50SG engines.

General Cooling water space corrosion prevention is part of the operating routines
and maintenance activities in every installation. If the treatment of the
cooling water and other water based systems is neglected it will shorten the
lifetime of the components.
The Diaprosim RD25 was approved to be used with WÄRTSILÄ medium-
speed diesel and gas engines based on the approval test. Later on, cooling
water system related problems were recorded in several installations. Under
comparative analysis made in the field on long time intervals, it appears that
the performance of Diaprosim RD25 cooling water treatment is not anymore
satisfactory due to risks of reduced protection from crevice corrosion in case
of non uniform dosage.

Note! The cooling water additive Diaprosim RD25 is not anymore an approved
additive for Wärtsilä medium speed diesel and gas engines.

Recommendations The Diaprosim RD25 cooling water treatment should be replaced as soon
as possible by another chemical additive system. List of approved products
can be requested from Wärtsilä.
Wärtsilä should be contacted for questions/support on the operation, and to
adapt the operation case by case. For further information please contact
your nearest Wärtsilä Services office.

Assistance Wärtsilä can offer assistance for implementing the change over from the
currently used Diaprosim RD25 to a new cooling water treatment approved.

Approved products See 4619Q002 Cooling water treatment and analysing, issue 05, published
in March 2011.

Letter distribution Wärtsilä Services Network and operators/owners of engines concerned.
