Introduction
This course is intended for candidates who want to gain the knowledge and abilities to progress onto the full
NVQ programme (City & Guilds 2357). The Level 2 qualification is designed for new entrants to the industry,
and Level 3 is aimed at those who have already completed the Level 2 qualification. This course may also be
suitable for students who wish to become domestic installers.

At our Training Centres in Burgess Hill, West Sussex and Portchester, near Portsmouth.

What qualifications do I need to have to do this course?


Although no formal qualifications are required, the course will require a fair amount of Maths and English
skills.

About the assessment


Assessment includes written assessments, written exams, multiple choice written tests and practical
assignments.

How long will it take?


Level 2 will take one year (40 weeks), followed by a second year for Level 3 (40 weeks) There will be a three
day practical assessment towards the end of year one.

Preparation for the course
You should familiarise yourself with the 17th Edition Wiring Regulations (BS 7671).
Other books will be required over the duration of the course, but they are not required from the start and
your tutor will advise you when to purchase them.
You must ensure that you have the latest version – details can be found on the IET website

Books are available to buy from the IET, from electrical suppliers such as City Electrical Factors and Medlocks
Electrical, from bookshops or from on-line retailers such as Amazon.

What will I need?


You should bring the following with you to your course:
 Your own copy of latest version of the required books for this course – (see above)
 Pen, paper and non-programmable scientific calculator
 Photo I.D. such as passport, driving licence or company I.D. card (you will not be allowed to sit the
on-line examination without this).
