What is the student learning goal for this lesson idea?
The student learning goal for this lesson idea is to be able to create an interactive audio story using
digital tools, incorporating sound effects, voice narration, and music to enhance the storytelling
experience. Additionally, they should demonstrate an understanding of literary elements, such as
theme and character responses to challenges, through their audio stories.
Selected Instructional Software Tool: FLIP

Description of Software: Audio editing software allows you to record, edit, and manipulate audio

How do you plan to implement this lesson and integrate the technology? Check all that apply:
☐ Teacher-led: There is no student voice and choice in the activities. Students are guided by the
teacher's direction and expectations. Learning activities are assigned to the student and mostly
practice based.

☒ Student-Led: Students are given voice and choice in the activities. They may select the topic of
learning and/or determine the tool they will use to meet the learning goal. The teacher facilitates
the learning as the students direct their own learning processes.

☒ Problem-based and/or Publishable: Students are solving problems and completing projects to
demonstrate their learning. Additionally, the projects can be shared outside of the classroom.
(Note: This objective could be reached by displaying the project on the school’s morning
newscast, posting the project to the classroom blog, presenting it to another class, or publishing
it via an outside source.)
Lesson idea implementation:
For this lesson, students will use audio editing software to create interactive audio stories. The
teacher will introduce the activity by discussing the concept of theme in stories and how multimedia
elements like sound effects and music can enhance storytelling. Students will be made aware of
their goal to create an engaging audio story that conveys a clear theme and emotions.

During the activity, students will utilize the audio editing software to record voice narration, add
sound effects, and include background music to bring their stories to life. They will work in small
groups to analyze different literary works and then create their own original stories or adapt existing
ones.

The teacher's role will be to facilitate the learning process, provide guidance and technical support
as needed, and offer feedback during the creation and sharing stages. Feedback will be provided to
students through peer evaluations and teacher assessments based on the effectiveness of their
multimedia storytelling.

The lesson will conclude with a reflection session where students discuss the process of creating
their audio stories and evaluate how well the multimedia elements conveyed the intended themes
and emotions.
Managing student learning:
Using the audio editing software for this project will shift students from passive to active social
learners. They will actively collaborate in small groups, making creative decisions together and
engaging in the storytelling process. Additionally, setting time limits for each stage of the project will
promote time-on-task and keep students focused on their objectives.

Universal Design for Learning (UDL) Reflection:

The specific UDL principle focused on in this lesson is Multiple Means of Action & Expression. The
use of audio editing software allows students to express their understanding of literary elements and
creativity in a variety of ways. They can choose their own story topics, adapt existing stories, and use
voice, sound effects, and music to convey their ideas, providing multiple means for them to express
their learning.

Reflection: I believe the activities in this lesson will have a positive impact on student learning.
Creating interactive audio stories will not only help students understand literary elements like theme
but also enhance their storytelling and multimedia creation skills. I look forward to seeing how
students use their imaginations and technical abilities to produce unique and engaging audio stories.
It will be exciting to witness their creativity come to life through the power of audio technology.
