CLASSROOM MANAGEMENT ASSIGNMENT

Question 7

Flag question

One or more students come to the teacher and say they

would like
to be advanced to a higher level but there is
some doubt if they
are ready.
What would you do?

I will try to appear positive about the

idea and suggest
taking an exam first to
make sure they are really prepared
for
a higher level. If they fail, at
least they will not have a
negative attitude
towards me.

You have to look at if they are bored in the lesson and

losing
interest in what you are teaching – do you need to do more
to keep them engaged in the process?

Flag question

Students complain of not having enough opportunity to

speak in
class.
What would you do?
I would give them the chance to discuss this and
say what
their ideas are. We can make extra
activities or
presentations.

You need to thank them for their feedback and provide more
activities where the teacher-talking-time
is minimised and
student-talking time maximised.
You could also point out
that even though the students are not
speaking directly to
YOU, the teacher, they are still speaking a
lot. Students tend
to consider the teacher as the only
valid co-
communicator, and are often not even aware of
how much
they are talking with their partner. You may want to
explain
the methodology and make sure they are aware of how
important it is to speak in English in their pair/group work

Question 9

Flag question
Students request homework but they never complete it or
rarely
do.
What would you do?

First, I will discuss the

problem with them. It could be that
they do
not realize they have to do
their homework
so I will
remind them what is required
and expected once again.
Then
I will introduce
a system
letting them collect extra
points by doing their
homework regularly. These
points can
give them some bonuses.

The first step is to make sure that you give them feedback on
their homework. This, in itself, is an incentive for them to
carry on doing it. You can also grade it and make it part of
the
final grade.  You also need to check with your director or
coordinator to make sure you follow the correct procedure.
