Thank you, Mr/Miss Speaker.

Good morning esteemed Speaker, diligent time-keeper, honorable judges,

members of the Government Team, and members of the floor.

Today, we, the Opposition Team, will present three arguments and refute all the arguments presented by the
Government side. Moreover, the Opposition Team strongly disagrees with the motion that "Social
Networking Sites are Used for Stalking Instead of Communication."

Before I present my case today, I would like to define today's motion: "This House Believes that Social
Networking Sites are used for Stalking Instead of Communication”, this is simply because we believe that
"Social Networking Sites are used for Communication Instead of Stalking." Allow me to define some key
phrases in the motion. According to the Oxford dictionary, stalking means the act or instance of stalking,
harassing another in an aggressive or often threatening illegal manner. Social networking means the use of
dedicated websites and applications to interact with other users or find people with similar interests.
Communication means the imparting or exchanging of information through speaking, writing, or using some
other medium. It also includes sending or receiving information through phone lines or computers. The word
“Instead” means substitute which shows replacing.

Putting two and two together, the motion implies the use of dedicated websites are used for harassing and
threatening replacing the use of it in imparting and exchanging of information. This clearly shows that
today's motion does not stand. Hence, we reject the notion that Social Networking Sites are Used for
Stalking Instead of Communication simply because social networking sites are designed and approved by
law worldwide that it is used as a medium to communicate.

Before I present the opposition's first point, let me specify our roles. As the leader of the opposition team, I
will talk about "Social Networking Sites as one of the easiest communication sources." The second speaker
will discuss "Privacy and Security Measures" and "Stalking is not unique to social networking sites" Our
third speaker will reinforce our stance through a rebuttal of the government's three points.

Ladies and gentlemen, the Prime Minister of the Government stated

that .......................................................................................................................................................................
.....................................................................................................................................We, the opposition team,
reject it simply because the government is providing misleading information about today's motion without
any evidence to support it. We, the opposition team will highlight to you that we reject the notion that Social
Networking Sites are Used for Stalking Instead of Communication simply because social networking sites
are designed and approved by law worldwide that it is used as a medium to communicate.

Now, let's move to our first point of contention, why we disagree with the motion that Social Networking
Sites are used for Stalking Instead of Communication. Social Networking Sites are one of the easiest
sources of communication. First, we cannot deny the fact that social networking sites are regularly used to
communicate with people who live far away or to connect with others in the same area, such as family and
friends, or to befriend someone online who shares similar interests. Social networking sites are created with
the primary goal of connecting people and enabling communication. Platforms like Facebook, Twitter,
Instagram, and LinkedIn were developed as tools to foster social interaction and facilitate communication
among users.

The University Canada West Blog has demonstrated how social networking sites or social media have
emerged as powerful communication mediums. It doesn't stop at just communicating with family or
acquaintances; social networking sites have also influenced businesses, making it more convenient for
sellers to communicate with their international customers.

According to research by Oberlo, as of 2019, there were 3.2 billion social networking or social media users
worldwide, which accounts for about 42 percent of the Earth's population. Additionally, there are
approximately 4.5 billion social networking site users worldwide today. These statistics are evidence of the
growing dominance of digital media in our daily lives. Moreover, our own country's statistics regarding
social networking users are impressive. In Malaysia, with a total population of 34.13 million, 96.8 percent of
them choose social networking sites as one of their primary communication sources. This statistic proves
that 26.8 million Malaysians are active social networking site users.

Social networking sites have permeated the business, advertising, and education sectors. They have had a
lasting impact on the way people communicate and have become an integral part of their lives. For instance,
WhatsApp has made it easier to communicate with the culture of instant messaging (IMS) and taken it to a
whole new level. With WhatsApp, you can text or call anyone across the globe without wasting time, as
long as you have an internet connection. WhatsApp is not the only easy way to communicate with others;
we can also use Facebook, Twitter, WeChat, and Instagram.

Social Networking Sites have become everyone's easiest source of communication because online
communication has brought information to people and audiences that were previously out of reach. It has
also increased awareness among people about what is happening in other parts of the world.

In this modern generation, we often use social networking sites to pass our free time, especially teenagers.
Pew Research Center has ranked the order of teenagers' daily social communication choices. Nearly four out
of ten teens (39 percent) choose to talk with their friends via landline every day, while 35 percent choose to
talk by cell phone with friends. Social networking sites regularly release statistics and reports that provide insights
into user behavior and engagement. These statistics often highlight the high volume of interactions, messages,
and content shared on the platforms. For instance, Facebook's statistics have consistently shown that the
majority of user activity involves communication, such as posting, commenting, and messaging, rather than
engagement in stalking behavior.

In conclusion, the Opposition Team strongly disagrees with the motion that "Social Networking Sites are
Used for Stalking Instead of Communication." We have presented our arguments, refuted the government's
points, and highlighted the importance of social networking sites as easiest source of communication tool.

We have established that social networking sites serve as one of the easiest sources of communication,
connecting people across distances and facilitating interactions with friends, family, and like-minded
individuals. The significant number of social media users globally and in our own country demonstrates the
widespread adoption and reliance on these platforms.

Furthermore, we have emphasized the positive impact of social networking sites on businesses, advertising,
education, and global awareness. These platforms have revolutionized the way people communicate and stay
informed about events worldwide.

Therefore, we firmly reject the notion that social networking sites are primarily used for stalking. Instead,
we assert that these platforms primarily serve as a means of communication, fostering connections, and
sharing information.

In light of the evidence presented and the understanding of the true nature of social networking sites, we
urge the audience to consider the broader scope of their functionalities and the benefits they bring to
individuals, communities, and society as a whole simply because social networking sites are designed and
approved by law worldwide that it is used as a medium to communicate.

Thank you, Mr/Miss Speaker, for the opportunity to express our stance on this important matter.
