CHAPTER 5

CONCLUSION AND FUTURE WORK

CONCLUSION
A vehicle brake health monitoring system is an advanced technology that continuously
monitors and assesses the condition and performance of a vehicle's braking system. The
primary objective of this system is to ensure the optimal functioning of the brakes, which
is crucial for vehicle safety. By constantly monitoring key parameters such as brake pad
wear, fluid levels, temperature, and pressure, the system can identify problems at an early
stage, allowing for timely repairs and preventing potential brake failures or accidents.

The automotive engineering field has witnessed a significant expansion of in-vehicle

electronic components and systems since the 1970s. This expansion was primarily driven
by the implementation of emission regulations, which necessitated the integration of
Engine Control Units (ECUs).

All the activities are performed to understand the state of brake health and its
components, to elevate brake health monitoring, and to minimize safety risks and
minimize effects that result from system failure. VBHMS is crucial for increasing the
lifespan of brake components. By addressing problems early on, vehicle owners can
avoid costly repairs and component replacements. The purpose of VBHMS is to call for
preventive/predictive maintenance by analyzing engine parameters data. It monitors the
data coming from sensors and ECU and then analyze it by comparing it with expected
range value of the parameters. If any deviation is detected, the system will indicate the
personnel.

With the development of Internet of Things (IoT), it is being applied to provide real-time
information through intellectual communication among humans and objects in various
fields. The method of obtaining the data by applying the IoT technology to brake health
monitoring can be utilized to determine information of the components of a system in real
time.
The OBD-II port is responsible for collecting data. The data acquired data is then
transferred to the cloud. The data collected by the sensors and ECU is processed and
analyzed by a central data base, which employs algorithms and logic to interpret the
information and determine the health status of the braking system. This information is
then relayed to the driver through a smart device display, providing real-time feedback
and alerting them to any abnormalities. With its connectivity capabilities, the brake health
monitoring system can integrate with other safety features and systems, further enhancing
overall road safety.
