How a PSE understand the Connected PD

► Detection (avoid apply PoE to non PoE device)

– PSE apply 25/10v to calculate the resistance, 25K means is a PD
► Handshake
– PSE provide fixed voltage
– PD drain current with a “code” of pulse
– PSE understand the PoE class
► LLDP is now added to the handshake capability
The PoE advantage over Electric Cable

► Use low voltage (56V DC)

– Not dangerous
– Do not require specialized installer
– Use low section wires
► Use already installed wire without topology knowledge
– Lot of cat5/6 wires are already installed
– PoE device are controlled using Ethernet Address not physical location
PoE PSE

► Switches
– Source only
– Pas through

► Media Converter
