1.1 This documentation covers the process of manufacture, heat treatment, chemical &
mechanical requirements and marking for all stud bolts, M/c bolts and nuts shall be in
accordance with the codes/standards and specifications given in the requisition.
1.3 The applicable identification symbol in accordance with the material specification shall be
stamped on each bolt and nut.

Term Definition
Approved Unless specifically stated otherwise, the term “approved”, where used in this specification,
shall mean approved in writing by the Purchaser.
Purchaser The party that awards the contract to the supplier. The purchaser may be the Company or
Company’s authorized agent.
Supplier The party that manufactures or supplies equipment or services to perform the duties specified
by the Contractor
All work shall comply with the applicable standards and publications listed in this section.
Users shall meet or exceed the requirements of the following codes, regulations and standards. In cases
where more than one code, regulation or standard apply to the same condition, the most stringent shall be
used in the design, fabrication and testing of items unless otherwise approved in writing by the Purchaser.
The applicable national, international and industry standards and publications include:
ASME B18.2.1 2012 Square, Hex, Heavy Hex, and Askew Head Bolts and Hex, Heavy Hex,
Hex Flange, Lobed Head, and Lag Screws
ASME B18.2.2 2016 Nuts for General Applications: Machine Screw Nuts, Hex, Square, Hex
Flange, and Coupling Nuts
3. DOCUMENTATION
3.1 Vendors shall furnish the following during submission of vendor’s offer:
If the item is regretted or has no deviation, the manufacturer shall write clearly against item as “REGRET” or “NO
DEVIATION”. Item(s) for which no comment has been provided by vendor, shall mean that the item is regretted
by vendor & shall not be considered for further technical evaluation.
For subject notes or technical notes (wherever applicable) specified, if there is any technical deviation, the same
shall be listed clause wise. Even clauses which are acceptable shall be categorically confirmed as “Accepted”.
Vendor shall furnish quotations only for those items, for which he can supply strictly as per MR specifications
including fulfilment of Qualification Criteria as per MR. Vendor to note that no correspondence shall be entered
into or entertained after the bid submission.
Vendor to submit previous track reports of projects (if requested), in tabulated format clearly specifying size,
MOC, rating, end connection & special requirements (wherever specified) with order received details like name
of client, year of supply etc., Vendor to submit supporting documents like purchase order, inspection release
notes, order completion certification etc. along with the offer. Offer will not be considered for any further
technical evaluation, if vendor will not submit previous track along with the offer.
For technical clauses, which are not applicable to vendor, Vendor shall clearly indicate “NOT APPLICABLE”.
Vendor shall submit technical notes and other applicable technical documents of the tender duly stamped &
signed. Also, if vendor is complying to technical requirements of a document in totality, Vendor shall write “Total
Technical Compliance” on document on title sheet / header of the document.
Vendor to note that deviations shall be provided / furnished strictly as per specified format only. Vendor to note
that deviations marked / written elsewhere shall not be considered.
On failure to compliance to clauses under 3.1, the offer is likely to be rejected.
4.1 All items and their dimensions, tolerances, chemical composition, physical properties, heat
treatment, testing and marking requirements etc. shall conform to the latest codes and standards
specified in the material requisition (MR).
4.2 TESTING
4.2.1 Test reports shall be supplied for all mandatory tests as per the applicable code & material
specifications.
4.2.2 Material test certificates (Heat Analysis, Product Analysis and Mechanical Requirement) shall also be
furnished for the bolts & nuts supplied.
4.3 All bolting shall be as per ASME B 18.2.1 for studs & M/c bolts and ASME B 18.2.2 for nuts. Metric
nuts shall be as per B18.2.4M.
4.4 Bolts and nuts should be in accordance with the relevant ASTM standards as specified in the piping
material specification.
4.5.1 Stud bolt shall be supplied with hexagonal nuts with metric threads & a pair of washers. Machine
bolts shall be supplied with single washer and single nut.
4.5.2 Stud bolts shall be threaded full length with two heavy hexagonal nuts. Length tolerance shall be in
accordance with the requirement of table C3 of Appendix-C of ASME B16.5.
4.5.3 The length of the stud / bolts should be such that minimum two threads should be out of the nut on
either side.
4.6 The nuts shall be double chamfered, semi-finished, heavy hexagonal type and shall to be made by the
hot forged process and stamped as per respective material specification.
4.8 Each size of studs & M/c bolts with nuts shall be supplied in separate containers marked with size and
material specifications.
4.9 All items shall be inspected and approved by Third Party Inspection.
4.10 The heat treatment for stud bolts & nuts shall be as per code unless mentioned otherwise.
4.12 All the stud / bolt should have metallurgical certificates in case of alloy / SS metallurgy with identified
colour marking at the stud ends / bolt side face.
4.13 Wherever bolt tensioning is specified stud bolt length shall be longer by minimum one diameter to
suit bolt tensioner and shall be provided with three nuts (i.e. one nut extra) to cover the extra-long
bolt length.
4.14 Any additional requirements specified in the requisition shall be fully complied.
4.15 Bolts / nuts of material of construction B7M/2HM shall be 100% Hardness tested as per
supplementary requirement S3 of ASTM A193.
4.16 When specified as galvanised, the studs, M/c bolts and nuts shall be electroplated galvanised in
accordance with requirements of ASTM B633.
4.17 Nuts for Bolts and Studs shall be the American Standard Hexagonal Heavy Series.
5.1 All items shall be legibly and conspicuously stamped in accordance with the requirements of
applicable ASME, API and MSS Standards.
5.2 All items shall be dry, clean and free of moisture, dirt, and loose foreign materials.
5.3 All items shall be protected from rust, corrosion and any mechanical damage during transportation,
shipment and storages
5.4 Rust preventive coats shall be applied on machined surfaces, which is not harmful to the material,
welding etc. Coating shall be easily removable with a petroleum solvent.
