the government is ready for
the discussion over the Ma-
nipur crisis but the opposi-
tion however stuck to its
position, asking for Modi’s
response in Lok Sabha.
The home minister
stood up in the house and
urged the protesting oppo-
sition to allow the discus-
sion to take place, as it is an
important issue and the na-
tion should get to know the
reality of the sensitive situ-
ation prevailing there.
He wondered why the
opposition was not interest-
ed in having a discussion on
Manipur.
The opposition however
stuck to its position, asking
for Modi's response in Lok
Sabha on the Manipur issue.
Even Speaker Om Birla
urged the opposition to al-
low the home minister to
initiate a discussion on Ma-
nipur, as home ministry is
the nodal ministry for the
situation prevailing in the
state.“The opposition is try-
ing to establish a new tradi-
tion by seeking prime min-
ister’s response on the mat-
ter, which is not right,” Birla
said. However, as Congress-
led opposition continued
with its slogan shouting, Bir-
la adjourned the House till
tomorrow. Earlier proceed-
ings of the lower house
were continuously inter-
rupted amid repeated ad-
journments and protests by
the opposition.

SC stays ASI survey of Gyanvapi
mosque till 5 p.m. Wednesday
New Delhi, July 24 (IANS)
The Supreme Court on Mon-
day ordered that a Varanasi
court’s direction allowing an
extensive survey of the Gyan-
vapi mosque by the Archae-
ological Survey of India (ASI)
will not be enforced till 5 p.m.
on Wednesday, saying that
â•?some breathing timeâ••
should be given to the Anju-
man Intezamia Masjid Com-
mittee for appeal. A bench
comprising Chief Justice Of
India (CJI) D. Y. Chandrachud
and Justices J. B. Pardiwala
and Manoj Misra permitted

move the High Court, the
Registrar Judicial shall ensure
it is placed before the appro-
priate bench, so that it could
be heard, before the status

the above direction after not-
ing that the order of the dis-
trict court was pronounced at
4.30 p.m. on July 21. An ASI
team had reached the
mosque to carry on the sur-

er, the apex court agreed to
hear the matter on an urgent

Congress president Mallikar-
jun Kharge on Monday de-
manded strict action against
a man who allegedly
smeared human waste on a
Dalit youth in Madhya
Pradesh. Coming down
heavily on the BJP-led state
government, Kharge high-
lighted that it was the “sec-
ond incident of Dalit atroci-
ty within a month. For de-
cades, the adivasis and back-
ward class citizens of
Madhya Pradesh have been
suffering humiliation under
BJP’s misrule, he added.
“BJP's‘Sabka Saath’, is con-
fined only to advertisements
and has become a showy slo-
every day. We demand that
strictest action should be tak-
en on this incident in Chha-
tarpur district,” Kharge post-
ed a message on his official
Twitter handle on Monday. As
per police, the incident took
place on Friday at Bikaura vil-
lage, about 35 km from the
Chhatarpur district head-
quarters. In his complaint, the
victim Dashrath Ahriwar told
the police that the incident
took place when he was
bathing at a hand pump af-
ter cleaning a drainage in
the village.
Meanwhile, Ramkripal
Patel, who belongs to an OBC
community, also came at the
same handpump and the vic-
es lying nearby with a mug
and smeared it on Ahriwar's
head and face, the victim told
the police. Upon reporting
the matter, instead of action
against the accused, the pan-
chayat slapped him with a
fine of Rs 600. Ahriwar then
approached the local police

(IANS) An 11-year-old boy
died by hanging while
imitating YouTube videos
in Telangana. The shock-
ing incident occurred in
Rajanna Sircilla district.
Uday, a class 6 student,
was found hanging in a
room at his house in Kish-
tanaik Tanda of Yellared-
dypet mandal. The boy
was said to be addicted to
watching videos on You-
Tube. After dinner on Sun-
day night, Uday went into
a room while watching
the videos on a mobile
phone and locked the
room.

drown in a pond

Four children drowned in
a pond where they had
gone to take a bath in
Dhobisarra village village
in Madhya Pradesh’s Shiv-
ni district.
The deceased were
identified as Rishabh (5),
Aarav (6), Ritik (10) and
Aush (8).
Parents were at their
workplace and came to
know about the tragic in-
cident after villagers in-
formed them.
A passerby spotted
the bodies floating on the
water and raised an alarm.
Subsequently, the local
police were informed.
Police said the bodies
were handed over to the
families after a post-mor-
tem was conducted late
on Sunday.

Vladimir Putin facing tough times ahead

New Delhi, July 24 (IANS) Russian
President Vladimir Putin has been
forced to cancel plans to attend BRICS
Summit in Johannesburg, next month,
due to fears over war crimes arrest.
Moscow feared that Putin might be ar-
rested in South Africa for war crimes if
he attends the annual event in Johan-
nesburg.
The International Criminal Court
(ICC) earlier in 2023 had issued an ar-
rest warrant for Putin over his alleged
role in the mass abduction of Ukraini-
an children. As an ICC signatory nation,
South Africa would have been expect-
ed to arrest Putin if he entered the
country.
Putinâ•™s travel plans had put
South Africa in a tough spot, as though
it remains an ally of Russia, the relations
between the two have gone cold since
the start of the Ukraine War. Also South
Africa didnâ•™t want the relations to
deteriorate further.
For months, South African diplo-
mats tried to prevent a potential dip-
lomatic confrontation with the Krem-
lin over the issue. The issued weighed
so much on South African politicians
that to avoid any unnecessary contro-

Ramaphosa even reportedly requested
permission from the ICC for an exemp-
tion in order to avoid arresting Putin

Jaipur, July 24 (IANS) Sacked
minister Rajendra Singh Gudha was
on Monday marshalled out of the
Rajasthan Assembly after he creat-
ed a ruckus and engaged in a scuf-
fle with state Parliamentary Affairs
Minister Shanti Dhariwal.Â
Gudha entered the House with
a red diary, which he claimed con-
tained “explosive” details and
waved it in front of Speaker C.P
Joshi.
He did not stop there and also
put down the mike of the Parlia-
mentary Affairs Minister Dhariwal.
The incident took place when
Dhariwal was proposing to expel
Gudha from the House.
On seeing the tension rising,
Congress MLA Rafiq Khan inter-
vened leading to a scuffle between
him and Gudha.
As the brawl escalated, the
Speaker adjourned the proceed-
ings of the House.
The Speaker then directed
Gudha to be thrown out of the
house. Marshals were called and he
was ousted.Earlier, Gudha had ap-
proached Speaker Joshi with a red
diary.At this, the Speaker asked
Gudha to leave and meet him in the

Chennai, July 24 (IANS) TheIndian
Space Research Organisation (ISRO)
will be launching seven Singaporean
satellites on July 30 using its Polar Sat-
ellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV).
ISRO will start the registration of
the public wanting to witness the
launch from Monday evening on-
wards.
According to the space agency, the
PSLV rocket with the code PSLV-C56
will carry the Singaporean DS-SAR sat-
ellite weighing about 360 kg as the
main passenger.
The other six co-passengers are
small satellites — VELOX-AM, ARCADE,
SCOOB-II are from Nanyang Techno-
logical University, Singapore; NuLIoN
belonging to NuSpace Pte Ltd, Sin-
gapore, Galassia-2 from National Uni-
versity of Singapore and ORB-12
STRIDER from Aliena Pte. Ltd., Sin-
gapore.
ISRO said the PSLV-C56 rocket is
configured in its core-alone mode —
without the additional strap-on mo-
tors to give additional thrust during
the initial flight stage.
It would launch the DS-SAR satel-
lite into a Near-equatorial Orbit (NEO)
at 5 degrees inclination and 535 km
altitude.
The DS-SAR satellite is developed
under a partnership between DSTA
(representing the government of Sin-
gapore) and ST Engineering.
Once deployed and operational, it
will be used to support the satellite
Singaporean satellites on July 30
imagery requirements of various
agencies within the government of
Singapore.
ST Engineering will use it for multi-
modal and higher responsiveness im-
agery and geospatial services for their
commercial customers.
DS-SAR carries a Synthetic Aper-
ture Radar (SAR) payload developed
by Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI).
This allows the DS-SAR to provide for
all-weather day and night coverage,
and capable of imaging at one metre
resolution at full polarimetry.
On the other hand, the VELOX-AM,
is a 23 kg technology demonstration
microsatellite; ARCADE Atmospheric
Coupling and Dynamics Explorer (AR-
CADE) is an experimental satellite;
SCOOB-II, a 3U nanosatellite flying a
technology demonstrator payload:
NuLIoN by NuSpace, an advanced 3U
nanosatellite enabling seamless IoT
connectivity in both urban & re-
mote locations; Galassia-2, a 3U nano-
satellite that will be orbiting at low
earth orbit and ORB-12 STRIDER satel-
lite is developed under an Internation-
al collaboration, ISRO added.
The Indian space agency said the
PSLV-C56 rocket will blast off from the
first launch pad at the Sriharikota
spaceport in Andhra Pradesh.
The proposed rocket mission is the
second one for ISRO in a space of
about two weeks.
On July 14, ISRO rocket LVM3 put
into orbit the Chandrayaan-3 space-
craft.

After that will be the orbiting of
Anwesha satellite and XPoSAT- a X-Ray
Polarimeter Satellite with the
ISROâ•™s Small Satellite Launch Vehi-
cle (SSLV).
It will be the countryâ•™s dedicat-
ed polarimetry mission to study the
dynamics of bright astronomical X-ray
sources in extreme conditions, the
government said.
The launch of the Radar Imaging
Satellite- RISAT-1B aboard the PSLV
rocket is planned in the second half of
2023.
The Indian space agency with its
Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Ve-
hicle (GSLV) plans to orbit INSAT-3DS
and two IDRSS (Indian Data Relay Sat-
ellite System) satellites.
These rocketing missions apart,
ISRO will be testing the various sys-
tems that will go into its LVM3 rocket
for the maiden human space mission.
Looking back at the year, ISRO had
two successful commercial launches
and three of the nationâ•™s satellites.
The two commercial missions
were the launch of 36 satellites be-
longing to the UK-based OneWeb with
the LVM3 rocket in March and the Te-
LEOS-2 satellite with two piggyback
payloads in April.
In February, ISRO launched the
earth observation satellite EOS-7 with
the SSLV rocket, the navigation satel-
lite NVS-01 in April with the GSLV rock-
et and the prestigious Chandrayaan-3

reported.The majority of the victims are family mem-

els of the virus and adhere
to their antiretroviral regi-
men have almost zero risk
of transmitting it to their
sexual partners, according
to a systematic review
published in The Lancet.
Findings indicate the
risk of sexual transmission
of HIV is almost zero at vi-
ral loads of less than 1,000
copies of the virus per mil-
lilitre of blood — also com-
monly referred to as hav-
ing a suppressed viral load.
â•?These findings are
important as they indicate
that it is extremely rare for
people who maintain low
levels of HIV to transmit it
to their sexual partners.
Crucially, this conclusion
can promote the expan-
sion of alternative viral
load testing modalities

webpages.
Spotted as a work-in-
progress within the latest
Google app beta (version
14.29), the company is pre-
paring a new ‘Summarise’
option for Google Assistant
that will appear when the
assistant is invoked while
browsing the web, reports

able to ask for it directly by

expected to appear when

Near term market trend to be
decided by Q1 results, Fed policy
decision
New Delhi, July 24 (IANS) The near-term market
trend will be influenced by a host of factors like the
recent Q1 results, some major results expected this
week and policy decisions like the US Federal Reserve
meeting outcome on Wednesday, says V.K. Vijayaku-
mar, Chief Investment Strategist at Geojit Financial
Services.
Q1 results of RIL, though a tad disappointing on
top and bottom line, are good when viewed from
the perspective of the growth engines of the com-
pany — Jio Infocom and Reliance Retail — which are
doing well and shows promise of improving, going
forward, he said.
ICICI Bank has delivered the best results in the
banking universe with 40 per cent growth in net prof-
it and impressive loan growth. Kotak Bank, too, has
done well.But since the NIMs are likely to remain
under pressure, no big spurt in earnings growth can
be expected, in the coming quarters. So, while these
stocks will remain strong and resilient, a sustained
rally appears difficult, he added.
The Fed is likely to raise rate by 25 bp on Wednes-
day, but the market movement will be decided by
the commentary of the Fed chief regarding future
inflation and rate trends. Investors may wait and
watch theseeventsunfold.BSE Sensex is trading up
by 46 points at 66,471 points on Monday morning.

Banks need to deal with poor
loan defaulters in sensitive,
humane way: Sitharaman
New Delhi, July 24 (IANS) Union Finance Minister
Nirmala Sitharaman on Monday said in Lok Sabha
through an intervention that all banks whether pub-
lic or private have been instructed through RBI to
deal with poor farmers in a humane and sensitive
manner on the issue of repayment of missed loan
instalments.
During Question Hour as Minister of State for Fi-
nance Bhagwat Karad was replying to a question by
a Shiv Sena member on harsh tactics undertaken by
banks while dealing with poor loan defaulters, Sith-
araman intervened, saying that it is a sensitive mat-
ter, which has been brought to the notice of the gov-
ernment quite often.
“A sensitive issue has been raised here. Such in-
stances of banks, whether public or private, indulg-
ing in arm twisting tactics while dealing with poor
farmers, have been brought to our notice. We have
often through RBI, instructed banks to deal with such
people in a humane manner,”she said.
There have been instances of representatives of
banks even indulging in physical violence while try-
ing to recover loan instalments.

shared some images of the new Cybertruck wrap, re-

Tamilnad Mercantile Bank posts
PAT of Rs 261 crore in Q1
Chennai, July 24 (IANS) Increased income, and re-
duced provisions has enabled Tamilnad Mercantile
Bank Ltd (TMB) to log higher profit for the first quarter
of FY24. In a regulatory filing, the TMB said the bank
closed the Q1FY24 with a total income of Rs 1,322.89
crore (Q1FY23 Rs 1,141.77 crore) and a net profit of Rs
261.23 crore (Rs 234.21 crore). During the period un-
der review, the bank had provided Rs 39 crore down
from Rs 55.22 crore provided during the previous year
corresponding period. As on June 30, the TMB’s gross
non-performing assets (GNPA) stood at Rs 580.72 crore
(Rs 572.15 crore on June 30, 2022) and the net NPA at
Rs 243.65 crore (Rs 310.92 crore). The total business
of the bank at the first quarter ended June 30 stood
Rs 84,300 crore with a growth rate of 9.40 per cent.
The bank’s deposit and advance portfolio stood at Rs
47,008 crore and Rs 37,292 crore, respectively.

Saurashtra battles monsoon fury
with rising casualties, evacuations
Rajkot, July 24 (IANS) In
the wake of a relentless del-
uge that has been battering
Gujarat’s Saurashtra region
for six consecutive days, of-
ficial reports have con-
firmed five additional fatali-
ties which took the overall
death tollto 98 since the on-
set of the monsoon season.
Of the five fatalities,
three hailed from Rajkot dis-
trict, while the other two
were from Junagadh city.
At least two more peo-
ple are reportedly missing in
the region, highlighting the
escalating severity of the
flood crisis.
The inundation has ren-
dered normal life stagnant
in the region, necessitating
the evacuation of around
5,000 residents to safer
grounds while hundreds
more were rescued from
perilous situations.
The region has been ex-
periencing heavy down-
pours in July, clocking a sub-
stantial 354 mm of rain, a
sharp increase from June’s
243 mm, according to me-
teorological data.
The India Meteorologi-
cal Department (IMD) has
issued a red alert for sever-
al parts of the state, indicat-
ing an impending threat of
more heavy rains extending
to Tuesday. On Monday, ar-

Amravati ACP shoots wife, nephew,
