1. GENERAL

l) The pitch roof constructed with Timber or Mild Steel trusses is covered with Corrugated Galvanized
Iron Sheets abbreviated hereafter as CGI Sheets.

2. SLOPE

Roof shall not be pitched at a flatter slope than 1 vertical to 5 horizontal (1:5) (about 10 to 12.5"). The
normal pitch adopted usually is 1 vertical to 3 horizontal (1:3) (about 20°).

3. MATERIAL

I) The Corrugated galvanized Iron (C.G.I.) shall conform to IS 277 in all respect, the sheets shall be of 275
grade of coating.

II) Purlins: Purlins shall be of specified material or M.S. rolled sections of requisite size shall be fixed over
the principal rafters. The Ridge purlins shall be fixed at 75 mm to 115 mm from the apex (ridge) of the
roof and the free overhang of the sheets at the eaves shall not exceed 300 mm. The purlins at eaves
shall be fixed at 75 mm to 150 mm from the eaves edge of principle rafters. The distance between the
intermediate purlins shall not be spaced at more than the distances as shown in Table, below:-

Table -

Thickness of CGI sheet Maximum spacing of purlins

1.00 mm 2.00 meters
0.80 mm 1.80 meters
0.63 mm 1.60 meters

IV) The top surfaces of the purlins or other roof members over which the sheet(s) rests/ bears shall be
uniform in plane, straight and level at specified pitch so that the sheets shall not require to be forced
down to rest on the purlins. Purlins shall be finished with specified paint/primer work before sheets are
fixed on their top. Embedded portion of purlins /rafters shall be given protective layer of two coats of
coal tar.

stored/stacked for longer time, they shall be stored under cover.

6. FIXING AND LAYING

C.G.J. Sheets shall be carefully supported on purlins/ every sheet shall be laid to a specified true plane,
level, alignment and pitch with the lines of corrugations parallel to purlins and length of sheet at right
angle to purlin. The sheet shall be laid with a minimum lap of 150 mm at the ends and along length the
sheets shall lap by 2 ridges of corrugation at each side (along the longer side).

After carefully setting the C.G.I. sheets on purlins or other roof members such as valley rafters, hip
rafters etc. the sheets shall be fixed/ to them by Galvanized Iron (G.I.) J or L hook bolts and nuts of not
less than 8 mm diameter, with bitumen and G.I. limpet washer. Spacing between J bolts shall not
exceed 300 mm.

Roof when completed shall be true to lines and slope(s). alignment and shall be leak-proof and finished
roof shall present a uniform slope and lines of corrugations, shall be straight and true, presenting neat
and uniform appearance and shall strictly be in conformity to relevant drawing(s) in every respect.

7. PRECAUTIONS

Before starting the laying of the sheets the Trusses, Purlins, Hip/valley rafters shall be got checked and
