Overview
The Emulex and Qlogic 8 Gb Fibre Channel HBA Adapters for IBM System x are part of a family of
high-performance 8 Gb host bus adapter (HBA) solutions. These HBAs deliver exceptional performance,
enabling small and medium businesses to experience unsurpassed robustness and reliabil- ity for a wide
spectrum of server, storage, and SANs.

The Emulex and QLogic 8 Gb Fibre Channel HBA Adapters for IBM System x are based on a design that
requires minimum user effort while providing maximum user satisfaction. The wide adoption of
installation or config- uration wizards eliminates the complexity and intricacies of Fibre Chan- nel SANs.
Emphasis on ease-of-use at every step assures a successful, enhanced experience. Default settings and
auto-detect configuration (similar to Windows XP) eliminate the need to know about each and every knob
and button on the dashboard.

Both QLogic and Emulex 8 Gb Fibre Channel HBA Adapters for IBM System x includes easy to use
software install wizards that steps through the com- plete HBA installation for Windows with just a few
mouse clicks. In ad- dition, each HBA includes a software utility that provides a simple Windowws and
Linux SAN management tool for these adapters that is tailored specifically for SMB users. Users can
easily monitor and perform any necessary maintenance, including updating firmware.

These adapters broaden the IBM 8 Gb HBA portfolio for System x servers. These additions to the
portfolio are offered in both Single and Dual -Port PCI-Express HBAs.

Description
The QLogic and Emulex 8 Gb Fibre Channel HBA Adapters for IBM System x offer an affordable and
reliable storage area network (SAN) to the small and medium business (SMB) market. The adapters are
easy to use, with proven quality, and demonstrated robustness (highest mean-time between failures -
MTBF). The Emulex and QLogic 8 Gb Fibre Channel HBA Adapters for IBM System x are based on a
design that requires minimum user effort while providing maximum user satisfaction. The wide adoption
of installation/configuration wizards eliminates the complexity and intricacies of Fibre Channel SANs.
Emphasis on ease-of-use at every step assures a successful, enhanced experience. Default settings and
auto-detect configuration (similar to Windows XP) eliminate the need to know about each and every knob
and button on the dashboard.

The Emulex and QLogic 8 Gb Fibre Channel HBA Adapters for IBM System x includes SMB AutoPilot
Installer, a wizard that steps through the complete HBA installation for Windows with just a few mouse
clicks. In addition, Emulex AutoPilot Manager provides a simple Windows and Linux management tool
for the adapter that is tailored specifically for SMB users. Users can easily monitor and perform any

The QLogic and Emulex 8 Gb Fibre Channel HBA Adapters are the latest PCIE adapter card options for
the IBM System x servers.

Each server can be installed with one or more adapter cards to provide redundant connections within
System x servers. The adapter card provides support for 8 Gbps data rates.
