Question 1
1.1) It is the Governments responsibility because they make money through the taxes of the fast-
food restaurants and when people become Obese or develop high blood pressure they go to the
hospital or doctor for treatment, so the least the government can do is take responsibility of the
pandemic.

1.2) (a) MacDonald’s use a few key things to brand impact children like using jungle gyms to attract
the children’s attention to go to their restaurant and have fun there, as well as using toys to
make the children ask their parents to buy the food that comes with a toy and lastly, they use
the product called the happy meal to attract the children’s attention with its unique appearance
making it the go to meal to satisfy children.
(b) No because children don’t know what is in their food and are not educated about it, all they
want is to eat and enjoy the food, but MacDonald is using their innocence to sell and promote
their business to children all over the world.

1.3) Yes, it is most definitely possible to make healthy food choices by either not going to the
tuckshop and having homemade food instead which will greatly decrease the amount of calories
you would get compared to the tuckshop or you could still go to the tuckshop but just buy the
healthier items on sale.

1.4) The Reformatory school did away with the Pepsi and Coke beverages as well as Chips,
Chocolates and even Donuts that were previously sold.

1.5) It was decided that they would be replaced with Sandwiches and salads instead of chips, donuts
and chocolates and the beverages were replaced with water, fruit juice and milk.

1.6) Due to their healthier eating, they became more proactive and did more sports, they also
became more sociable with their peers in the school and became more focused in class thus
picking up their grades.

1.7) He got fatter the more he ate MacDonalds


He sweated more than usual
He took shorter breaths than what is normal
He developed internal problems

1.8) The doctor believes that the saltiness of the MacDonalds fries make the presenters mood lift
because salt triggers a hormone called dopamine which is also a happy hormone that stimulates
feelings of pressure and satisfaction
1.9) It was only on the 21st day that the presenter appeared to be in critical danger.

1.10) (a) Yes, it has, before I watched the video, I only had a brief understanding of MacDonalds
food but now it has truly shocked me that people would eat it knowing what they are eating.
Having MacDonalds food is terrible because most of their food consists of Fatty acids, sugar and
excessive sodium which should not be eaten regularly, it can cause health problems like obesity
and high blood pressure.
(b) They can start out by just eating less fatty acids, sugar and excessive sodium to reduce
the chance of getting obesity and high blood pressure, if they want to go further they can
start to go on a diet to consistently become healthier.

Question 2
2.1) Arrive Alive: The government sets up operations like traffic enforcement on all main routes
in SA during the festive months to make sure that everyone is using the road in an orderly
and safe manner

Road accident funds: The government helps by providing compensation to people who have
been injured by road accidents and are in need of money to pay for it.

HIV/AIDS Awareness Campaign: The government creates awareness about the disease and
by providing medical, social and economic support to people that are effected by HIV and/or
AIDS.

private sector host many community sector dialogues and activities in the country to take
care of the dealing with GBVF (Gender Based Violence and feminine) together.

2.2) Arrive Alive: Road traffic Deaths are one the main causes of death in South Africa. This is a
serious social and economic cost for the country. These consequences include the loss of
family members, bread winners and leave behind traumatized families. Currently there is an
average of 40 road related deaths a day.
Road accident funds: The RAF provides financial support to people that are injured in road
accidents. The RAF is a publicly accessible fund that is set up to provide monetary
compensation to those people who have suffered injuries in an accident on public roads.
Even if the driver of the car doesn't have insurance, the people injured in the accident can
receive money from the fund to help pay medical expenses and to pay for wages they
may have lost as a result of the accident.

HIV/AIDS Awareness Campaign: The South African government has acknowledges that the
human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) is the cause of Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome
(Aids).In conducting [the HIV/Aids and STI Strategic Plan for South Africa, 2000 – 2005], the
government’s starting point was based on the idea that HIV causes Aids, the South African
Cabinet said in a statement on their meeting of 17 April 2002 that it is also critical for
people, as a nation, to know that there is no cure for Aids.

16 Days of Activism against Woman and Children Abuse: is a United Nations campaign
which takes place every year from 25 November to 10 December. During the 16 Days of
Activism against Woman and Children Abuse, the Government together with civil society
and the private sector all host a series of community and sector dialogues and activities to
take care of all effort in dealing with GBVF.

2.3) The government can send his officials directly to confirm the fund benefits reaching. The
Government can make sure money is transferred through, giving them the bank cheque.
They can also make the money directly transfer to one of the beneficiaries bank accounts.
Another way is to give the money through issuance of special banks cards to beneficiaries
through which they can withdraw money from any government bank and that card should
be given through posting services. Also, the government can make it necessary for local
public representatives to give the fund by themselves and repeat them after a certain time
to confirm with the sign of beneficiaries.
