Job Summary:
As a Dialysis Nurse at Fatima Hospital's Nephrology/Dialysis Unit, you will be a vital member of
the healthcare team, responsible for providing specialized care and support to patients with kidney
failure or chronic kidney disease who require dialysis treatment. Your primary focus will be
administering dialysis therapy, closely monitoring patients during the procedure, and ensuring their
safety, comfort, and well-being. Your expertise in operating dialysis machines, assessing patients'
responses, and delivering compassionate care will be instrumental in delivering high-quality
dialysis services to our patients.

Responsibilities:
Dialysis Treatment: Prepare and set up dialysis machines and equipment for each patient's
treatment session. Administer dialysis therapy in accordance with prescribed schedules and dialysis
prescriptions.
Patient Assessment: Conduct comprehensive assessments of patients before, during, and after
dialysis treatment. Monitor vital signs, fluid balance, and assess overall health status to ensure safe
and effective dialysis sessions.
Venipuncture and Vascular Access: Skillfully perform venipuncture to establish vascular access
for dialysis, which may include inserting and maintaining arteriovenous (AV) fistulas, grafts, or
central venous catheters.
Medication Administration: Administer prescribed medications, such as heparin or other
anticoagulants, as needed during dialysis treatment to prevent blood clotting and ensure the
adequacy of the dialysis session.
Patient Education: Educate patients and their families about kidney disease, dialysis procedures,
dietary restrictions, and self-care techniques, fostering better disease management and compliance
with treatment plans.
Fluid and Electrolyte Management: Monitor fluid intake and output, as well as electrolyte levels
in patients undergoing dialysis, and take appropriate actions to maintain optimal balance.
Infection Control: Strictly adhere to infection control protocols to prevent the spread of infections
within the dialysis unit and maintain a safe environment for patients and staff.
Assessment of Dialysis Adequacy: Evaluate the effectiveness of dialysis treatment by assessing
patients' response to therapy and making adjustments to the treatment plan as required.Emergency
Response: Be prepared to respond promptly and effectively to any medical emergencies or
complications that may arise during dialysis sessions, providing immediate care and support.
Record Keeping: Maintain accurate and detailed medical records, including patient assessments,
dialysis treatment records, medication administration, and progress notes.
Collaboration: Work closely with the multidisciplinary healthcare team, including nephrologists,
dialysis technicians, and other medical professionals, to ensure comprehensive and coordinated
patient care.
Patient Advocacy: Advocate for the best interests of patients, ensuring they receive appropriate
care, support, and resources to manage their kidney disease effectively.
Continuing Education: Engage in continuous learning and professional development to stay
updated with the latest advancements and evidence-based practices in nephrology and dialysis
nursing.

Requirements:
 Profound knowledge of kidney anatomy, physiology, and kidney disease management.
 Familiarity with different types of dialysis (hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis) and related
equipment.
 Excellent venipuncture and vascular access skills.
 Strong assessment, critical thinking, and decision-making abilities during dialysis treatment.
 Effective communication and patient education skills.
 Compassion, empathy, and the ability to provide emotional support to patients coping with
chronic kidney disease.
 Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
 Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, as needed to
meet patient needs in a dialysis center of Fatima Hospital setting.
