Lesson Brief description:
Introduction There are tools that you can use in getting the meaning of an unfamiliar word.
1. Dictionary
A dictionary is a reference book that contain list of words are arranged
alphabetically. It contains the meanings, spelling, classification (parts of
speech), and information about grammar and pronunciation of a word. The
main contents of a dictionary are guide words, entry words, parts of speech
and its definition or meaning.
2. Thesaurus
A thesaurus is also a reference book used to find words. Its content is
much like a dictionary but with entries of synonyms (words with similar
meanings) and antonyms (words with opposite meanings).

In looking for word meanings, bear in mind that there are ways to do this. You can make use of a
dictionary, a thesaurus or on an online source. A dictionary and thesaurus are mostly alike in parts and
function, but the latter has an array of synonyms and antonyms. On the other hand, an online source is
a digital way of searching a word using a technological gadget with an internet connection.
