ASSIGNMENT 1 [ Identification & Technology 40%]

1. INTRODUCTION

The objective of this assignment is to cultivate and develop your research skills to further understand
the key factors that influence historical development of early man, and to promote understanding
and appreciation of the beliefs and ideas that drove the architecture of the built environment of
ancient civilizations.

By the end of this assignment, students MUST be able to demonstrate the below;

CLO 1 Identify the characteristic of built environment from different civilisation and the factors and
characteristic of civilisation that influences its development (C1, PLO1)

CLO 2 Interpret architecture characteristic of different civilisation in visual, written and oral form.
(C3, PLO6)

3. TASKS

1. The online lectures are uploaded in the system and you may view the lecture at any time
during the semester. The assignment is related to the lectures. Ensure that you understand
the content given.

2. Choose FOUR periods of architecture (e.g. Greek, Roman, Romanesque, Gothic). Fill up the
table below with freehand sketches of TWO building types (e.g. palace, house, tomb,
temple) as shown in the example below:
