MISSION

[A group of teenagers are seated, holding their usual fellowship session]

Chidi
How many of us are excited?

Teenagers
[Clap and shout excitedly]

Raoul
Calm down first Chidi, what are we excited about?

Chidi
Our mission trip is tomorrow….

Raoul
Ohhh okayyyyy…. I’m not going.

Chidi
Why?

Raoul
I don’t understand…. What’s there to be excited about? Mission that somebody will go for and
come back with an evil spirit.

Chidi
[laughs] How will you come back with an evil spirit?

Raoul
Have you forgotten the last missions we went for that the demons were manifesting through
most of our fellowship members?

Chidi
They weren’t spiritually prepared for it, but we are…

Raoul
Ohhh okayyyy…. I no go.

Chidi
[laughing] Raoul are you scared? Have you forgotten what 1st John 4:4 says? He that is in me
is greater than He that is in the world…

Raoul
He that is in you… am I you?
 Chidi
[laughs] I’ve always known you to be an unserious fellow. But Raoul, you know you have to
come…. as our lead instrumentalist.

Raoul
But….

Chidi
The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ….

Teenagers
[laughs and rise to leave as they share the grace]

[members of the church at the mission field come on stage and discuss within themselves for
awhile until Chidi and the others walk in]

Pastor
Welcome brethren… [points at Leela] This is my beloved daughter, in whom I am well pleased.

Raoul
Wow… there’s a daughter

Pastor
She's very vibrant in the work of God, I'm really proud of her. She'll show you to your quarters.

Raoul
(Walk up to Leela) Hi… I'm Raoul. I'm a missionary, always looking for fields where I can preach
and deliver people from demons.

Leela
Then do I look demon infested?

Raoul
No… I didn't say that ma'am.

Leela
Let's pray before we proceed…let's hold hands.(closes her eyes and prays for while, then
leaves with them following behind)

(A group of people come in drinking in a bar scene. Raoul walks in too and joins in drinking)

Girl 1
Hi, do you stay around?
 Raoul
No… i was forced to come and chase demons (laughs)

Leela
(Already drunk) Hey, what are you doing with him? Is he willing to pay?

Raoul
Jesus!!! Leela…is this you?

Leela
(In a drunken state) here comes the demon chaser.. What demon are you here to chase, man of
God?

Raoul
God..(covers his face and walks away)

[they all leave the stage one after the other. Chidi and the rest come back for church scene]

Pastor
Can God proudly point to you and call you His? Like he did with Job? We all claim to love God,
but what can you do for Him? What have you done for Him? What have you given up because
of the love you claim to have for Him? It’s not all about attending services, going for missions…
What has changed since you received His life? There’s more we are capable of, we just need to
take christianity more seriously. I’d like my daughter to sing a song as we rededicate our lives.

Leela
[begins to sing Lord I'm available to you…. As they begin to pray]

Pastor
Amen…. It’s time to go into the neighborhood and preach Jesus.

[they all leave stage except Raoul]

Raoul
How is she comfortable singing on stage with what she does outside church?

Voice 1
What will you do about it?

Voice 2
There’s nothing you can do… Do you think you’re worthy to judge her? Are you perfect or what?
You’re not so different from her. Do you think you’re acceptable before God? You're a hypocrite.
 Raoul
She wouldn’t even listen if i spoke to her, cause she knows i’m like her.

Voice 1
And what should you do about that?

Voice 2
Nothing! You’re condemned already… accept your fate, there’s nothing you can do about it.

Raoul
I am condemned already [walks out]

[everyone returns with long faces]

Pastor
[speaks soberly] the Lord gives and the Lord takes… but she was too young to just leave… The
only joy i have is that she was devoted to God in and out, so there’s surely a place for her in
God’s kingdom. God bless her soul[cleans his eyes and walks out with the members following]

Raoul
[enters and sees Chidi sad] What happened Chidi?

Chidi
Didn’t you hear?

Raoul
Yes i heard, that’s why i’m asking you what happened na [hisses] What happened?

Chidi
Leela was found dead?[stands and walks away]

Raoul
Jesus…. [puts his hands on his head] Haaaa, just like that… and i didn’t talk to her. So she’s
condemned for eternity now…. And i could have spoken to her… God
