Instructions : Answer all the questions

1. An experiment was conducted to find out the freezing point of substances X. A


boiling tube containing molten X at 77.0°C was cooled. Molten X was stirred
continuously with the thermometer and its temperature was recorded at one-minute
intervals. Figure 1 shows the readings of the thermometer for the experiment

2. An experiment to determine the empirical formula of aluminium oxide was carried


out by a student. The following steps were followed:
Step 1 : Weigh the crucible and lid
Step 2 : Weigh the crucible, lid and aluminium powder
Step 3 : Heat the crucible until the aluminium powder burnt completely
Step 4 : Cool and weigh the crucible, lid and aluminium oxide
