ROSE’S STORY BY WANDA "ROSE" BIBB 2

Roses' story highlights breaches in the social justice system, ethical responsibilities,

personal rights, protocols, rules as well as self-serving policies that govern the social justice

system. The book brings to attention an entirely different world that goes against educational

practice models, theories and strategies. Rose gives firsthand information gathered from her

interactions and experiences. Despite the fact that Rose had amnesia at times and her work may

have required collaborative support, the work still serves its purpose.

Rose needs specific social services throughout the book. For instance, the services she

received at her stepmother's foster home were not agreeable. Her stepsister was unkind to her

expecting her to clean the house by herself, with her stepmother continually insisting she should

get married. At the hospital, Rose and the rest of the patients find doctors who offer unacceptable

services for their mental conditions.

Rose further observes that the social workers assigned to her case were less concerned

with the living conditions Rose currently is living. Moreover, the social workers are extremely

careless and subject patients to an environment that is not suitable for their recovery. Rose notes

that only the family psychiatrist had a positive impact on her with the nurses having a negative

influence on her. Rose notes that the nurses treated patients with contempt and disregard.

Personal experience

When I was seven, my family adopted a four-year-old who was disabled. As such, the

family had to deal with rigorous adjustments and frequent visits from social workers. At one

instance, my parents had to deal with a rude social worker who had a routine come to ensure the

conditions were suitable for my sibling. The social worker told my parents ‘she was in it for the

bucks’ and did not care whether Johnson slept in the dog’s kernel or not.
