SYNTHESIS ON THE SIMILARITIES/DIFFRENCES OF THE FOLLOWING ABSTRACTS ON THE


ASSESSMENT OF THE EFFECTIVENESS OF READING PROGRAMS

SIMILARITIES
- One of the similarities of these abstracts is the quasi-experimental design/studies which they
used to investigate and assessed the effectiveness of the different reading intervention types in
determining and increasing the reading fluency, vocabulary and most especially the
comprehension skills of the students.
- Varied reading programs and interventions were also presented to gauged the improvement of
the reading performance of the readers and to determine the amount of growth for each
student after instruction.
- Teachers were recommended to continue the assessment of the results of the reading
intervention program being implemented to achieve a not just some learners that can read but
most learners that can comprehend what they are reading..
- Further research will need to be conducted to determine any potential long term benefits.

DIFFERENCES
- Research studies used the different design such as the quasi-experiment that aims to evaluate
interventions but that do not use randomization, and the descriptive research design which aims
to systematically obtain information to describe a phenomenon, situation or population. More
specifically, it helps answer the what, when, where and how questions regarding the research
problem rather than the why.
- Various reading intervention program were presented, one of which is called Beginning Reading
Para sa mga Tsikiting. Results of the revised Phil-IRI Reading Profile were used as it’s baseline in
determining the improvement of the reading skills of the learners in the primary grade.
Complete enumeration was used in this study.
- The other research study used three reading intervention types in increasing reading
comprehension, both explicit and implicit. Reading intervention types included pull-out in a
small group using part-to-whole language strategies, a computer-based reading intervention
type, and an integrated reading intervention type using whole-to-part language strategies.
- Another intervention is the remedial reading program within the regular classroom.This study
investigated whether using the basal or a new program, Project STARS, would produce reading
gains in intermediate remedial readers.
