from the dinosaurs.
Crocodiles get very old: they can live 80 to 100 years.
Crocodiles live in tropical regions - Africa, India,
Southeast Asia, Australia, South America. They are
reptiles and can live both on land and in water. They
especially like fresh water - estuaries, swamps and
lakes. They stay in the water most of the time. They
come ashore to sunbathe.
The animals have a long body with a horn shell and
four legs. The tail serves as a rudder when swimming.
There are 60 to 70 sharp teeth in their mouths, which fall out over and over again and are replaced
by new ones throughout their lives.
Crocodiles are hunters: they are very fast. They eat meat. Their prey are fish, waterfowl and other
small animals. Large crocodiles also eat animals such as zebras and antelopes.
Adult crocodiles are so strong that no other animal can harm them. However, humans hunt
crocodiles, which is why some species are threatened with extinction.
