Butterfly Pea flower is herbal plant that has been used for traditional
medicine. These compounds have antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and
antimicrobial properties. This study aimed to determine the antibacterial activity
of the flower ethanol extract cream and to determine what concentration was the
most effective concentration against Propionibacterium acnes and Staphylococcus
epidermidis bacteria.
Extraction method used maceration with 96% ethanol solvent and
evaporated with a rotary evaporator to obtain a thick extract. Evaluation of
cream dosage form, and antibacterial activity test using agar diffusion method.
The results of the evaluation of organoleptic test dosage form with
concentrations of 10%, 20% and 30% met the criteria for the organoleptic test
with soft texture and green color, the homogeneous test showed that the form was
homogeneous, the spreadability test was 4.1-5.2, the pH test was 4.5 -6.5,
emulsion type test i.e. w/w, irritation test showed butterfly pea flower ethanol
extract cream did not occur redness and itching on the skin and antibacterial
activity test of Propionibacterium acnes with 10% concentration 2.8mm, 20%
concentration 5.1mm , 30% concentration 6.3mm and positive control 12.0mm.
Staphylococcus epidermidis with 10% concentration was 2.2mm, 20%
concentration was 3.6mm, 30% concentration was 6.5mm and positive control
was 10.5mm.
The conclusion shows that cream ethanol extract of buterfly pea flower
(Clitoria ternatea) has antibacterial activity on Propionibacterium acnes and
Staphylococcus epidermidis. The most effective concentration is 30% with an
inhibition zone of 6.3mm and 6.5mm.
