Internal Competition A Curse For Team Performance

Summary
In this case we talk about a company called FIS Consulting
Services and a recent incident between their team members in
an offshore project. Steve Fernandez the HR Manager believed
that the team members had the proper technical skills but fell
behind on group effort and teamwork in accomplishing goals
also destroying the reputation of the company.
Issues
There were a few issues which were compromising the team’s
performance:
1. Pursuit of personal goals by team members like Rishi who
were just concerned with their own personal gains and
discouraged efforts by others.
2. Secondly no one was specified to pursue a specific task
creating confusion among team members.
3. Fear of conflict was also an issue because Sara tried to
avoid conflicts with Rishi despite his actions which made
things difficult for Sara continuously.
4. Last but not the least no team is a team until they have
trust in each other which most of them lacked and
different groups had different goals.
Alternatives

1. The easiest way to get rid of the problem is to remove the

ineffective leaders which were Rishi and Philly who were
being intrusive and wasting the efforts done by other team
members.
2. Since Philly was not able to separate his private life and
work life he should be immediately removed from the
team because he was being used as Rishi’s pet to get a
hold of Sara.
3. Another reason to kick out Rishi was his nature towards
people outside of his knowledge, he would not listen to
them and make their decisions according to him.
4. Lack of leadership caused by Philly has left the without a
proper path therefore a new leader who can manage all
team members while keeping his or her personal life aside
should be appointed.

Recommendations
The easiest way for FIS Consulting Group to get rid of the
above problems is to find an efficient and non-biased leader
who focuses on helping every member of the team regardless
of their post and should also try to lead by example by finishing
things on time and being a good leader as well as a role model.
Last but not least making communications between employees
necessary so trust could be placed among them with time.
