More than a Conqueror

How-To Guide

Scripture Reference: 1 Kings 20

Backdrop: In 1 Kings 20, we see two kings - King Ben-hadad of Aram & King Ahab of Israel.
King Ben-hadad represents the enemy of God’s people while King Ahab represents God’s
people. King Ben-hadad demanded that King Ahab give him his family & riches. Surprisingly,
King Ahab did so without reserve, but that wasn’t enough.

 Vs. 7 – We learn that King Ben-hadad was “intent on evil.”

 Vs. 22 – King Ahab was told to “regroup your forces.”
o Who has your back? Who will fight the spiritual battle with you?
o Call for backup!
 Vs. 23 – The enemy will try to bring you low in order to defeat you.
 Vs. 27 – King Ahab & his forces were “supplied with provisions.”
o If you have the KJV, your text may read “And the children of Israel were
numbered, and were all present.”
o The phrase “were numbered” comes from the Hebrew word paqad (pronounced
paw-kad) which can mean:
 To appoint
 To put in charge
 To be an overseer
 In other words, they were given authority
o The phrase “and were all present” comes from the Hebrew word kuwl
(pronounced kool) which can mean:
 To receive
 Step 1: Receive Jesus as your Lord & savior. Receive the
baptism of the Holy Spirit.
 To abide
 Step 2: Abide in the full armor of God & pray.
o Ephesians 6:10-18
 To nourish
 Step 3: Receive Nourishment.
 Jesus is referred to as the “bread of life” in John 6:35; the Holy
Spirit is referred to as “living water” in John 7: 37-39.
 Reminder: Jesus is the Word. John 1:14 tells us “And the word
(Christ) became flesh…” Therefore, the Word of God is also
nourishment.
 Starve the flesh, Feed the spirit.
o Daily surrender to God’s will
 Luke 9:23
o Pray to have the mind of Christ
 1 Corinthians 2:16
 2 Corinthians 10:5
 Romans 12:2
o Pray to have a heart after God’s heart
 1 Samuel 13:14
 Grow in the fruit & gifts of the Spirit.
o Fruit of the Holy Spirit – Galatians 5:22-23
o Gifts of the Holy Spirit – 1 Corinthians 12:1-11
 To bear
 Then you will be able to bear all things
 To sustain
 The Lord will sustain you.
 Step 4: Learn to distinguish the voice of God.
o 1 Samuel 3:1-10
 Who do you have to teach you how to recognize
God’s voice?
 Step 5: Trust God with everything.
o Proverbs 3:5-6
o Jeremiah 7:23
 Vs. 27 – Then, they went out & met their enemy.
o The word “they” signals they did not fight alone.
o Step 6: Call for backup!
o Step 7: Offense, not defense.
o The enemy will try to wear you down & keep you in defensive mode. We’re
called to take an offensive stance.
o How do we take the offensive? By using our authority through Christ.
 Speak the Word over every situation.
 Hebrews 4:12
 Vs. 34 – They had the victory & restoration.
o Step 8: Praise God even before the victory has occurred. Call things unseen
as if they already were.
Bible Verses
 Ephesians 6:10-18
o The Armor of God
o 10 Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of His might. 11 Put on the
full armor of God, so that you will be able to stand firm against the schemes of the
devil. 12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers,
against the powers, against the world forces of this darkness, against the spiritual
forces of wickedness in the heavenly places. 13 Therefore, take up the full armor
of God, so that you will be able to resist on the evil day, and having done
everything, to stand firm. 14 Stand firm therefore, having belted your waist with
truth, and having put on the breastplate of righteousness, 15 and having strapped
on your feet the preparation of the gospel of peace; 16]in addition to all, taking up
the shield of faith with which you will be able to extinguish all the flaming arrows
of the evil one. 17 And take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit,
which is the word of God. 18 With every prayer and request, pray at all times in
the Spirit, and with this in view, be alert with all perseverance and every request
for all the saints,
 Luke 9:23
o 23 And He was saying to them all, “If anyone wants to come after Me, he must
deny himself, take up his cross daily, and follow Me.
 1 Corinthians 2:16
o 16 For who has known the mind of the Lord, that he will instruct Him? But we
have the mind of Christ.
 2 Corinthians 10:5
o 5 We are destroying arguments and all arrogance raised against the knowledge of
God, and we are taking every thought captive to the obedience of Christ,
 Romans 12:2
o 2 And do not be conformed to this [a]world, but be transformed by the renewing
of your mind, so that you may [b]prove what the will of God is, that which is
good and [c]acceptable and perfect.
 1 Samuel 3:1-10
o The Prophetic Call to Samuel
o 3 Now the boy Samuel was attending to the service of the Lord before Eli. And
word from the Lord was rare in those days; [a]visions were infrequent. 2 But it
happened at that time as Eli was lying down in his place (now his eyesight had
begun to be [b]poor and he could not see well), 3 and the lamp of God had not yet
gone out, and Samuel was lying down in the temple of the Lord where the ark of
God was, 4 that the Lord called Samuel; and he said, “Here I am.” 5 Then he ran
to Eli and said, “Here I am, for you called me.” But he said, “I did not call, go
back and lie down.” So he went and lay down. 6 And the Lord called yet again,
“Samuel!” So Samuel got up and went to Eli and said, “Here I am, for you called
me.” But he said, “I did not call, my son, go back and lie down.” 7 Now Samuel
did not yet know the Lord, nor had the word of the Lord yet been revealed to him.
8 So the Lord called Samuel again for the third time. And he got up and went to
Eli and said, “Here I am, for you called me.” Then Eli realized that the Lord was
calling the boy. 9 And Eli said to Samuel, “Go lie down, and it shall be if He calls
you, that you shall say, ‘Speak, Lord, for Your servant is listening.’” So Samuel
went and lay down in his place. 10 Then the Lord came and stood, and called as at
the other times: “Samuel! Samuel!” And Samuel said, “Speak, for Your servant is
listening.”

understanding. 6 In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He will make your
paths straight.

o 23 But this is [a]what I commanded them, saying, ‘Obey My voice, and I will be
your God, and you will be My people; and you shall walk [b]entirely in the way
which I command you, so that it may go well for you.’
 Hebrews 4:12
o 12 For the word of God is living and active, and sharper than any two-edged
sword, even penetrating as far as the division of soul and spirit, of both joints and
marrow, and able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart.
