Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.

NOTICE
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during
performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair
of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers
before opening any compartment or disassembling any component
containing fluids.

Note: If the crankshaft is turned in the wrong direction, the tab on the bearing will be pushed
between the crankshaft and the bearing area of the cylinder block. This can result in damage to
the cylinder block and/or the crankshaft. Turn the crankshaft so that the bearing tab is rotated
out of the crankshaft.

3. Remove the upper halves of the main bearings by putting Tooling (A) in oil hole (2) in the
crankshaft. Turn the crankshaft in the direction which will remove the upper halves of the
main bearings.

4. Remove the lower halves of the main bearings from the main bearing caps.
