GENESIS 3
GENESIS 6
GENESIS 7
Genesis 9
1 Kings 18
Ahab, the King of Israel, and his wife, did not love
God. They caused the people to worship gods that were
not real—gods made from wood, stone and metal.
The One True God was not happy because of these
things. He sent a message to His prophet, Elijah. He
told Elijah to gather all of the Israelites together in a
certain place. There, God would show the people that
He is the One True God. Elijah obeyed God.
Two animals called oxen were killed and cut into
pieces and put on two altars to be burned. No fire
would be used by the two groups of people who were
there. The prophets of a false god would pray and ask
their god to send fire. Then Elijah would pray and ask
the One True God to send fire. The one who sent fire
would be the One True God whom the people should
follow.
The prophets of the false god prayed for many hours.
There were 450 of them praying, jumping and
screaming, but no fire came. Then Elijah prayed, and
the One True God sent fire immediately. The people
accepted Elijah’s God.

2 Chronicles 7
This person has great joy and peace in his heart: the
one who does not follow the example of people who are
living in a way that does not please God; this person
does not select wicked people as his close friends; he
does not decide that obeying the One True God is
foolish and is for foolish people.
The person who has found great joy and peace in his
heart has decided that God’s commandments are the
best things for him. During the day and during the
night, this person thinks about what God wants him to
do and how God wants him to live.
The truly happy person loves God will be like a
strong tree that grows near a river so that the roots
always have enough water. This strong tree will
continue to produce the fruit that God wants it to
produce. The leaves on this tree will never wither and
die because they get everything they need from the tree.
This person will have success in whatever kind of work
he does.
The person who is living a life that is disobedient to
God is not like the one who loves God. The disobedient
person is like the chaff from the harvesting of wheat.
The chaff is not good to eat and does not produce
anything good. The wind just blows it away as the
wheat is harvested.

John, Chapter 15
The One True God has made the world for a definite
purpose. As Jesus Christ taught people during His life
on earth, He made this purpose very clear. By using a
grape vine as an example, Jesus helped people
everywhere understand what God wants.
God the Father is the one who takes care of the vine.
God the Son is the vine that grows out of the ground.
All people are the little branches that grow from the
vine. The purpose of the little branches is to produce
grapes.
God the Son provides everything needed by the
people to do their work. However, some people do not
want to do the work God has given them to do. They do
not want to be attached to the vine. They deny God’s
plan and purpose. Their lives fail to produce the kind of
fruit God wants.
The One who takes care of the vine must prune off
the branches that fail to produce grapes. The branches
that are cut off are good for nothing. They are burned
up.
The branches that produce grapes are cut only a
little. This takes away the parts that slow the
production of grapes. Then, these branches can
produce more grapes, or spiritual fruit---love, joy, and
peace--throughout the earth.

1 Corinthians, Chapter 11
Jesus knew why God the Father had sent Him to live
on the earth--to die for the sins of all people. This was
God’s plan from the beginning of the world. It was a
very hard thing to do. It meant giving the Son He loved
to people who would torture Him—hate Him—give Him
a bloody death.
Jesus knew this. When the time came for Him to die,
He prayed to God the Father. He said, “Please take this
terrible experience away. Find another way to pay for
the world’s sins. But if this is the way You have chosen,
I will do what You say.”
Jesus prepared His disciples for His crucifixion. He
called them together. He arranged for a supper with
them. He explained that He would die. But He did not
want the world to forget why He died.
After supper, Jesus took a piece of bread. He broke
it into little pieces. Each disciple took a piece and ate it.
Jesus said, “This broken bread represents My broken
body. I did this for you.”
Next, He took a small container of grape juice. Each
disciple took a small taste of the juice. Jesus said, “This
juice represents blood that flowed from My body. I did
this for you.”
Jesus then said, “Continue having this ceremony
until I return to the earth. This will help you to
remember how much I love you.”

Faith is believing that you will have the thing that you
hope to get. You have the conviction that you will have
something that you do not yet have. People who lived
many, many years ago pleased the One True God by
having faith.
It is by faith that we understand that the creation of
the universe happened because God commanded it to
happen. He took things that were not seen and made
things we can see.
A man named Abel lived on the earth soon after the
earth was created. By having faith in the One True God,
Abel made an acceptable offering to God. His brother,
Cain, did not. God was very pleased with Abel’s
offering. God forgave the bad things that Abel had
done because Abel believed in the One True God. Abel
is dead, but the story of his love for God helps us to
know that he did the right thing.
Another man, Enoch, lived many, many years ago.
He had faith in the One True God and loved God very
much. This made God happy.
If a person does not have faith in the One True God,
he cannot make God happy. Any person who comes to
God must believe that God is living and is the Creator of
all things. He must believe that God receives and helps
every person who looks for ways to obey God.

1. Contacts
In Asia, as elsewhere, we meet people every day
who have studied English grammar but have very
little confidence in their ability to speak English. In
Cambodia we took at least one copy of “A True
Story” with us each time we left our house. In
Thailand we do the same thing. When we meet an
Asian who speaks a little English, we compliment him
on his ability to use English words. He usually
responds, “No, my English is very poor, but I would
like to speak English better.” We take that as our cue
to introduce ourselves as English teachers. We
explain that we have some books of stories written in
very easy English. We open a copy of “A True Story”
and turn to the first story in the book. We ask him to
look at the words and see if they are too difficult for
him to read. He is usually very eager to look at the
words. Some Asians cannot read these simple words,
but most of them who speak a little English can read
70
2. Teaching a class
In the beginning, Asians are primarily interested in
improving their ability to speak English. With this in
mind, we emphasize to each new group that we want
to help them, as individuals, to do three things:
1. Learn to pronounce English words correctly.
2. Learn the meaning of English words
3. Learn to speak English in a conversation with
another person. Use sentences with the words in the
right order (syntax).
In the beginning, it is also helpful for the teacher to
remember and practice several important points:
71
1. A True Story
This was the first book written. It is very
suitable as the first book to be used with an individual
or a group. The stories are very short and the sentences
are very short. The 134 stories take the students
through the entire Bible. After using this book, we saw
clearly that students from Buddhist and other religious
backgrounds could not relate to many of the ideas and
persons in the stories. We added a section called
“Notes” to help fill in the great void in Bible knowledge.
The stories and the notes were written in simple
English.
74
5. To Obey
The One True God loves all people. He wants to
teach them how to live a happy life here on the earth.
For Him to do this people must obey His comman-
dments or laws. In the Bible, we learn that God wants
believers to go to help all people in the world become
His followers. He wants believers to teach people to
obey all of His commandments. This book explains the
Ten Commandments plus the one new commandment
God the Son gave us.
To Obey can also be used in class and fills in more
about the
One True God. Like the other books, it is written
in easy-to-understand English.
6. For Us
Jesus Christ died a very painful death on a cross.
He is God the Son who became the sacrifice for the sins
of all people. His death was not an accident. It was part
of the plan of the One True God. The death of Jesus
was necessary to give all people a way to come back to
the One True God. The thing Jesus did was not for Him
but for us. Our sins separated us from the One True
God, but believing in Jesus brings us back to Him. This
book makes clear the meaning of the death of Jesus
Christ on a cross, based primarily on Isaiah 53. It helps
Asians, and others, to know more about the One True
God.
It, too, can be used in class because it is written in
very easy English.
76
8. I Am Who I Am
This is a story about a young Asian man named
Ashiq. After a time of disappointment and frustration in
his life, an old friend introduces him to the Eternal God
who is present in all generation. The story is written in
easy-to-read English.
10.Abraham
Abraham lived on the earth at least 4,000 years
ago. When he was a young man, he had a different
name. His father and mother named him Abram when
he was born. Later in his life, God changed his name to
Abraham. Abraham believed in the One true god and
