Competency: Identifies odd and even numbers

Grade Level: 3

Duration: 60 minutes

Materials Needed:

 Number cards (0-20) or number cubes

 Whiteboard or chart paper

 Markers or chalk

 Counters or small objects (e.g., beans, buttons)

 Worksheets or activity sheets (optional)

 Pencils or crayons

Lesson Overview: This lesson plan aims to help Grade 3 learners identify odd and even
numbers through play-based and interactive activities. The activities will engage
students in hands-on learning experiences to develop their understanding of odd and
even numbers. The lesson duration is approximately 60 minutes.

Lesson Procedure:

1. Introduction (5 minutes):

 Gather the students in a circle and explain that they will be learning
about odd and even numbers.

 Show the number cards or cubes (0-20) to the students, and ask them if
they notice any patterns.

 Introduce the terms "odd" and "even" and briefly explain the difference
between the two.

2. Odd and Even Sort (15 minutes):

 Distribute the number cards or cubes to each learneror group.

 Have the students take turns picking a card or rolling a cube and
identifying the number.
 Ask the students to determine if the number is odd or even by discussing
it with their group or partner.

 Have the students place the number card or cube in the appropriate
category on the whiteboard or chart paper labeled "Odd" and "Even."

3. Odd and Even Objects (15 minutes):

 Distribute counters or small objects to each learneror group.

 Instruct the students to select a random number card or cube and

represent that number using the counters or objects.

 Ask the students to count the objects and determine if they have an odd
or even number of objects.

 Have the students share their findings with the class.

4. Odd and Even Hunt (15 minutes):

 Create a scavenger hunt activity where students search for objects

around the classroom that represent odd and even numbers.

 Provide a checklist or worksheet for students to record their findings

(optional).

 Encourage students to work in pairs or small groups to find as many

examples as possible.

 Reconvene as a whole class and allow students to share their discoveries.

5. Conclusion and Recap (10 minutes):

 Gather the students together and review the concepts of odd and even
numbers.

 Ask students to summarize what they learned during the lesson.

 Address any questions or concerns students may have.

Extensions and Assessments:

 To assess individual learnerunderstanding, provide worksheets or activity

sheets for students to identify odd and even numbers independently.

 Encourage students to create their own number patterns or games involving

odd and even numbers and share them with the class.

 Observe learnerparticipation and engagement during the activities to inform

formative assessment.
Note: The lesson plan duration is approximate and may be adjusted based on the pace
of the class and learnerneeds.
