B. LESSON PROPER
1. Introduction
“4 pics 1 word”
Mechanics: Four pictures will be shown and must guess a word that is
common to all the pictures. A spinner will pick a group which will answer
questions to reveal the 4 pictures and guess the word. The class will
arrange all the words to reveal the topic.

Questions:
a. Sino ang sumulat ng Noli Me Tangere?
b. What is the past tense of say?
c. What do you call this formula?
d. What is the largest organ of the body?
e. Saang parte ng Luzon matatagpuan ang Rizal?

2. Development
“LET’s WORK-IT-OUT”
Directions: The class will be divided into four (4 groups). Let a
representative from each group pick one problem. Members of each group
should work together to solve the problem they have picked.

A. The tower is 15.24 m high. At a certain distance away from the tower,
an observer determines that the angle of elevation to the top of it is 41°.
How far is the observer from the base of the tower?

feet from the base of the wall. What angle does the ladder make with
the ground?

Guide Questions:
1. After reading the problem what will you do next? Draw or illustrate
the situation
2. What are the steps in solving word problems involving right
triangles?
a. Draw a diagram. Transform it into a geometric triangle and label
each part correctly.
b. Determine the given and the question that needs to be
answered.
c. Identify the corresponding trigonometric formula to be used.
d. Show your solution.
e. Present the conclusion.
3. Why is it important to follow the steps in solving problems involving
right triangles? It is important because it helps you to easily answer
the problem.

3. Engagement
“MATH-TOUR”
Directions:
1. The class will be divided into four (4) groups.
2. Each group has to compute four (4) Word Problems involving Right
Triangle posted in the four stations.
3. Each group has to visit each station one at a time.
4. Three minutes will be given for each group to analyze and solve the
word problem.
5. Once you hear the buzzer, the groups have to go to the next station in
a clockwise direction, until all the groups are able to visit and compute
the indicated word problem in the four stations.
6. Choose one representative to report the group output.

7. Each group will be rated according to the following rubrics.

STATION 1: Windmill Pililia

Alvin was standing from a point
118 meters away from the base
of a Pililia Windmill. When he
looked on the top of the
Windmill he formed a 68° angle
of elevation. Help Alvin find the
approximate height of the tower.

STATION 2: ANTIPOLO CATHEDRAL

Rayna wants to go to the
Antipolo Cathedral. From her
place she saw the top of the
church with angle of elevation of
35°. She knows the church
stands 40 m high. Let’s help
Rayna compute how far she
was from Antipolo Cathedral.

STATION 3: TERESA RIZAL

Clover went for an adventure.

She visits the Quest Adventure
Camp in Teresa Rizal. She was
standing at the top of the tower
and sees a car on the ground
that is 20m away from the tower.
If the angle of depression of the
car on the ground is 75⁰, about
how high is Clover from the
ground?

STATION 4: TANAY RIZAL

Pablo is standing in a 37 feet

lighthouse in Tanay Rizal. He
looked down and saw a boat
that has an angle of depression
of 32°. Help Pablo to find the
distance of the boat from the
foot of the lighthouse.

4. Assimilation

a. Key points

Steps in problem solving involving right triangles:

1. Draw a diagram. Transform it into a geometric triangle and
label each part correctly.
2. Determine the given and the question that needs to be
answered.
3. Identify the corresponding trigonometric formula to be used.
4. Show your solution.
5. Present the conclusion.

b. Assessment
Direction: Read each of the problems carefully and solve. (5 points)
PAGASA announces that a typhoon is going to enter the
Philippine Area of Responsibility. Strong winds and heavy rainfall are
expected over Rizal and nearby provinces in North Luzon.
Adrian lives in Rizal. He noticed that one of the lampposts
installed in their garden was about to collapse. As a precautionary
measure, he attached a 2-meter wire to the lamppost to support it. One
end of the wire is attached one meter from the base of the lamppost
and the other end is attached to the base of a nearby tree. Determine
the angle the wire makes with the ground.

IV. REFLECTION

Solving word problems involving right triangles is just like

solving your own problems in life. Sometimes you can quickly solve the
problem without any difficulty. However, there are times when you
need to come up with a strategy to find the correct answer. Similarly,
when you are faced with a personal problem, you can either find a
solution to that or just ignore it. Consequently, ignoring your problems
can cause this small problem to build up, becoming a big problem over
time. To avoid this scenario to happen, what are your coping strategies
when faced with difficulties? Write them in your notebook.

V. CLOSURE
“A good way to integrate problem solving is to spend some time building
positive attitudes and disposition about problem solving”.
-Randy Charles
