Content Standard
The learner demonstrates understanding of key concepts of parallelograms
and triangle similarity.

Performance Standard
The learner is able to investigate, analyze, and solve problems involving
parallelograms and triangle similarity through appropriate and accurate
representation.

B. LESSON PROPER

1. Introduction

“Finding Ratio”
Sarian Farm is owned and operated by Zac B. Sarian. It is located in
Teresa Rizal. Sarian Exotic Fruit Trees is the home of a wide array of
superior fruit trees, both imported and indigenous varieties. Mr. Zac wants
to find the ratio of some exotic fruit on his farm to easily compare it.
Students will find the ratio of exotic fruit being compared. Each correct
ratio is associated with a set of letters which will reveal a hidden word.

Find the ratio of the following:

PR 1. Golden queen Mango to Bangkok Santol

OP 2. Puyat Durian to Japanese Orange

OR 3. Seedless Atis to Bangkok Santol

TI 4. Puyat Durian to Golden Queen Mango

ON 5. Seedless Atis to Japanese Orange

Guide Questions:
Which of the following is an equivalent fraction?

Answer: Proportion

2. Development

Dora does Proportion!

Mechanics: Select the correct tourist spot in Rizal as shown in the picture.
Each picture will reveal a situation involving proportion. Tell whether the
ratios being compared in each situation are equivalent ratios. If those
ratios are equivalent, choose FAIR and if not, choose UNFAIR.

 Teresa National High School were going on a tour. The first bus
consists of 4 teachers and 20 students, and the second bus
consists of 5 teachers and 25 students. Is this FAIR?
 On the math exam, Lily scored 20 points for answering 6 questions
correctly and Tom scored 10 points for answering 3 questions
correctly. Is this FAIR?
 May and Mary are photocard collectors. May traded 7 BTS
photocard for 14 Blackpink photocards and Mary traded 9 BTS
photocards for 16 blackpink photocards. Is this FAIR?

Guide Questions:
1. Which situation/s is/are proportion?
2. How can you tell if the two ratios are proportion?
3. Do you know that there is another method to determine if two ratios
are proportion?

Example 1: Teresa National High School were going on a tour. The first bus
consists of 4 teachers and 20 students, and the second bus consists of 5
teachers and 25 students.

Method 1: By simplifying Ratio

4 : 20 = 5 : 25
4 5 1 1
= → =
20 25 5 5

1
Each of these ratios (fractions) in simplest form is which indicates that the
5
two ratios form a proportion.

Method 2: By multiplying the means and extremes (Cross multiplication

property/Means-Extremes Property)
100 = 100
100
means
4 5
4 : 20 = 5 : 25 =
20 25
Extremes
100
Since the answers are both 100, then the ratios are equal, therefore, a
proportion is formed.

Example 2: On the math exam, Lily scored 20 points for answering 6

questions correctly and Tom scored 10 points for answering 3 questions
correctly. Prove that the given situation shows a proportion. Use the means-
extremes property. 60
means

20 : 6 = 10 : 3
Extremes
60
Example 3: May and June are photocard collectors. May traded 7 BTS
photocard for 14 blackpink photocards and June traded 9 BTS photocards for
16 blackpink photocards. Prove that the given situation does not show a
112 =
proportion. Use the cross-multiplication 126
property.

Proportion Card!
Directions:
1. The class will be divided into 4 groups (♥, ♠, ♣, ♦).
2. Each group will be given 2 sets of Playing Cards according to their shape.
3. Choose a set of four cards that form a proportion.
4. Repeat Step 3 until you make 3 different proportion cards.
5. Choose one representative to report the group output.
6. You will be given 10 minutes to do the activity.
7. Each group will be rated according to the following rubrics.
8. When you are done, prepare a yell for the group.

D. Assimilation

a. Key Points
A proportion is the equality between two ratios. Each quantity in a
proportion is called term of the proportion. Thus in the proportion a:b = c:d, a,
b, c, and d are the terms. b and c are called means while a and d are called
extremes.
Two ratios are proportional if the product of the means is equal to the
a c
product of the extremes. That is, if = , where b ≠ 0 and d ≠ 0, then ad = dc
b d
b. Assessment

Riddle:
Teresa Rizal was named after a female datu in precolonial Philippines.
