3.2 A point or location from which a flammable gas, vapour, mist or liquid may be
released into the atmosphere so that an explosive gas atmosphere could be
formed. (3)

3.3 Distance in any direction from the source of release to where a gas/air mixture
will be diluted by air to a concentration below the lower flammable limit. (3)
[13]

QUESTION 4: SANS 60079-10-2: 2018 EXPLOSIVE DUST ATMOSPHERES

4.1 The examples in this standard are based on a system of effective

housekeeping being implemented in the plant to prevent dust layers from
accumulating. Where effective housekeeping is not present, the area
classification includes the possible formation of explosive dust clouds from dust
layers. (4)

4.2 Generic term including both combustible dust and combustible flyings. (1)

QUESTION 5: SANS 60079-0: EXPLOSIVE ATMOSPHERES

GENERAL REQUIREMENTS

5.1 This part of IEC 60079 specifies the general requirements for construction,
testing and marking of Ex equipment and Ex components intended for use in
explosive atmospheres. (3)

5.2 The Ex equipment shall be legibly marked on a main part of the Ex equipment
and the marking shall be visible, from the exterior, prior to the installation of
the Ex equipment. (4)

5.3  The name of the manufacturer or his registered trade mark

QUESTION 6: SANS 10123: 2014 THE CONTROL OF UNDESIRABLE STATIC
ELECTRICITY

6.1 It is governed primarily by its energy that will be some fraction of the total
amount of electrical energy contained in the charged object from which the
discharge emanates. (3)

6.2 The installation of a separate permanently connected earthing conductor is

recommended. (1)

6.3 By placing the objects on an anti-static or conductive floor. (1)

6.4 Ensure that there is a conductive path between the axle of each wheel, castor
or roller and the surface of the rim normally in contact with the floor. This
makes it necessary for the tyres of wheels and castors to be of conductive
rubber. (3)

6.5 Firmly attach a suitable lead to the apparatus and to earth. In such cases,
there is no need for conductive wheels, castors and rollers. (2)
[10]

QUESTION 7: SANS 10108: 2017 THE CLASSIFICATION OF HAZARDOUS

LOCATIONS AND THE SELECTION OF EQUIPMENT FOR USE IN
SUCH LOCATIONS

7.1 The initial process is that instrumentation line diagrams and initial layout plans
are available and confirmed before plant start-up. (2)

7.2 It is the employer's responsibility to ensure that the area classification remains
up to date (either by reviews at regular intervals or as part of change
management) to ensure that all modifications to the plant or mine that could
affect the area classification are taken into account. (4)

7.3  A return airway

 Any location not more than 180 m from any working face
 Any other location determined by risk assessment (3)

7.4  Coal crushing plants

 Coal storage silos
 Coal beneficiation plants
 Coal bulk handling facilities
