2. Rationale for the module and its links with other modules
This module promotes in-depth and systematic understanding of current theoretical perspectives
relating to creative specialist practice and demands that students use research methods and apply
them to the production of resolved verbal, visual/object-based or written work.
This module engages students in research, critical analysis and the synthesis of the practice and text
based aspects of the course. It is expected that students will engage with concepts and issues that
underpin and inform creative work and the creative industries. This is achieved through the
development of an extended project demonstrating the in-depth analysis of selected concepts
grounded in extensive, appropriate research that is integrated in a coherent form. Students will have
individual tutorial support for this aspect of the course.
• Students will discuss and negotiate their choice of topic, which will be related to aspects of
their creative practice.
• Students will be encouraged to engage in development planning in relation to the research,
analysis, structuring, analysis and critical evaluation.

Students will work independently, generate their own content and will be encouraged to engage in
