Recount Text 1 Bandung Lautan API (BLA)
Bandung as Sea of Fire was a fire that occurred in the city of Bandung on March 24, 1946. Within
seven hours, about 200,000 residents of Bandung burned their homes.
British troops as part of the Brigade MacDonald arrived in Bandung on October 12, 1945.
Bandung was deliberately burned by TRI and local people. There was black smoke billowing high into
the air everywhere. The British Army began to attack so fierce. The greatest battle happened in the
Village name Dayeuh Kolot, in South Bandung, where there were a large ammunition depot belonging to
British. In this battle, Barisan Rakyat Indonesia destroyed the ammunition depot.
The strategy to fire Bandung was considered because the power of TRI and people’s militia was
not comparable to the British forces and NICA. This incident inspired to create the famous song “Halo
Halo Bandung”. To remember what they did and struggled, they built the Bandung Lautan Api
monument.

Almost everyone eats bread daily, especially for breakfast. Bread making is not a complicated task. You
only need flour, water, yeast, sugar, salt, oil, butter, and an oven. Choosing good flour is the step in making bread.
There are two kinds of flour, soft and hard. Hard flour, made of winter wheat, is a better choice for making bread
because it produces bread that has a better texture and taste.
Then, lukewarm water, yeast, sugar and salt are mixed with the flour to make dough. Yeast is a
microscopic organism that is capable of producing carbon dioxide. It can make the dough rise or expand. Both
sugar and salt give flavor to the bread so that it tastes nice. They, however, have different effects on yeast. After
that, oil (such as olive oil, corn oil, peanut oil) and butterbare added because they are essential to make the bread
tender. After mixing the ingredients, the dough is sent to the oven.

More than 250 known disease can be transmitted through food. It is estimated that unknown or
undiscovered agent cause 68% of all food-borne illness and related hospitalizations. Many cases of food poisoning
are not reported because people suffer mild symptoms and recover quickly. Also, doctors do not test for a cause in
every suspected case because it does not change the treatment or the outcome.
The known causes of food poisoning can be divided into two categories: infectious agents and toxic agents.
Infections agents include viruses, bacteria, and parasites. Toxic agents include poisonous mushrooms, improperly
prepared exotic foods (such as barracuda – ciguatera toxin) or pesticides on fruits and vegetables.
Food usually becomes contaminated from poor sanitation or preparation. Food handlers who do not wash
their hands after using the bathroom or have infections themselves often cause contamination. Improperly packaged
food stored at the wrong temperature also promotes contamination.

Going to college or getting a job right after graduating high school is the common choices of teens will
likely face. Some likely choose to continue studying at college or university but the others try to find job. Here are
the reasons.
Why is it so important for students to continue on to post-secondary education; university or college? The
reason is that post-secondary education will allow them to get the skills and tools that they will need to help them
prepare for a good career. It has been said that the more education they have the more careers will be open for them
to choose from. Employers today will tend to be more open to a person with the more education.
However some of them choose to get job right after high school. They believe that education is critical but
college is not. In fact, there are numerous careers, such as in healthcare, technology, operations, transportation, and
the building trades that do not require a four-year degree from college or university. Furthermore, as they advance
in these careers, there is also nothing stopping them from pursing a college degree at a later age.
So, what are you doing after graduating high school? Think carefully!

Television has a great influence on our ideas about what is right and wrong about the way we should
behave, and about life in general. Sometimes the values and life styles that we get from television are in conflict
with those that are taught at home and at school. Critics of television point out that crime and western programs
often appeal to a taste of violence, while many games show appeal greed. Many critics also believe that television
should be used for socially constructive purposes as well as for entertainment.
3
The first commercial television broadcast was made in April 20, 1939 by Radio Corporation of America
(RCA). Since 1939., it has become one of the most important facts or modern life. Television is very much part of
the modern world. Its effects are felt all over the world.
Television is a reflection of modern world, say some people. It shows contemporary society. It affects
customs and culture, others say. Television is bad for culture because it keeps culture from growing, say still
others.
Good or bad, television is difficult to avoid. Its pictures enter home, stores, airports, and factories. It is here to stay!

Is it important to know what your kids are watching? Of course yes. Television can expose things you have
tried to protect them from, especially violence, pornography, consumerism, etc.
A study demonstrated that spending too much time on watching TV during the day or at bedtime often causes
bedtime disruption, stress, and short of sleep duration.
Another research found that there is a significant relationship between the amount of time spent for watching
television during adolescence and early adulthood, and the possibility of being aggressive.
Meanwhile, many studies have identified a relationship between kids who watch TV a lot and being inactive and
overweight.
Considering some facts mentioned above, protect your children with the following tips:
1. Limit television viewing to 1-2 hours each day.
2. Do not allow your children to have a TV set in their bedrooms.
3. Review the rating of TV shows that your children watch.
4. Watch television with your children and discuss what is happening in the show.

Narrative Text STRONG WIND
Once there was a great warrior named Strong Wind. He lived with his sister in a tent by the sea. Strong Wind
was able to make himself invisible (1). His sister could see him, but no one else could. He had said he would marry
the first woman who could see him as he came at the end of the day.
Many women came up to his tent to watch for him. When his sister saw him coming, she would ask, “Do you
see him?”
Each girl would answer, “Oh, yes! I see him!”
Then Strong Wind’s sister would ask, “What is he pulling his sled with?”
And then the girls would answer, “with a rope (2)” or “with a wooden pole.”
Then Strong Wind’s sister would know that they were lying, because their guesses were wrong.
A chief lived in a village. His wife had died, and he had three daughters. One was much younger than the other
two. She was gentle, kind and beautiful, but her sisters were jealous (3) of her and treated her badly. They cut off
her long black hair and they made her wear rags. They also burned her face with coals so that she would be ugly.
They lied to their father that she did these things to herself. But she remained calm and gentle (4).
The two older sisters also went to try and see Strong Wind. When he was coming, Strong Wind’s sister asked
them, “Do you see him?” “Oh, yes! I see him!” Each of them answered. “What is his bow made out of?” asked
Strong Wind’s sister. “Out of iron,” answered one. “Out of wood,” answered the other. “You have not see him,”
said Strong Wind’s sister. Strong Wind himself heard them and knew that they had lied. They went into the tent,
but still they could not see him. They went home very sad.
One day the youngest daughter went to try and see Strong Wind. She was wearing rags (5), and burn covered
her face. People laughed at her, but she kept going. When she got to Strong Wind’s tent she waited.
When Strong Wind was coming, his sister asked the girl, “Do you see him?”
“No,” the girl answered. “I don’t see him.”
Strong Wind’s sister was surprised because the girl had told the truth. “Now do you see him?” asked Strong
Wind’s sister.
“Yes,” answered the girl. “Now, I do see him. He is very wonderful.”
“What is his bow (6) made of?” asked Strong Wind’s sister.
“The rainbow,” answered the girl.
“And what is the bowstring made of?” asked Strong Wind’s sister.
“Of Stars,” answered the girl.
Then Strong Wind’s sister knew that the girl could really see him. He had let her see him because she had told
the truth.
“You really have seen him,” said Strong Wind’s sister. Then the sister washed the girl, and all the burns went
away. Her hair grew long (7) and black again. The sister dressed the girl in fine (8) clothes. Strong Wind came and
the girl became his wife.
The girl’s two older sisters were very angry, but Strong Wind turned them into aspen trees. Ever since that day,
the leaves of the aspen tree always tremble (9) with fear wherever he comes near, because they know he remembers
their lying (10) and meanness.
