1. Introduction
This structural Report lists the criteria that will be used for the structural
design of a Nile City . It includes; the codes of practice utilized, loading
criteria, and material sections; and gives a brief description of the
proposed structural system to be used.

Design is based on the use of international standards, mainly the egytian

building code. The following paragraphs describe in details the different
design aspects and parameters that will be utilized for designing and
detailing this project.

2. Design Criteria
2.1 Aim of Structural Design
2.1.1 Safety
The main concern of structural design is to design strong structure that
will safely carry the self-weight, and all superimposed dead and live loads,
also the equivalent wind loading through a strong connection to the
supporting beam without exceeding the allowable capacity limit.

2.1.2 Durability
This Nile City must be designed to be utilized for many years to come
as possible. Prolonging the life time of steel structure is enhanced by
proper designer of bolted and welded connection to resist cyclic stresses
and by producing good quality welds. Protection against corrosion is
achieved by painting of elements and/or using of galvanized steel.

2.1.3 Facility of Construction

• Produced design of structural systems must be possible to
construct, and based on local construction techniques and
materials and prevailing site conditions.
• Producing design and details should not cause construction
difficulties during erection of form work.
• Construction tolerance and dimensions of members and
connections must be carefully observed and planned to facilitate
erection of steel structural system.
2.1.4 Cost effective and safe design
One of our targets of engineering requirement in this project to design
safe and functional structural, that demand minimum cost for material
and construction by:

• Structural system and required materials.

• Applicable facilities of construction.

2.2 Codes of Practice and Standards

Design will be based on the following codes of practice:

1. Egyptian steel Building code ECP(latest version).

2. Egyptian code of loads (ECP.2002)

3. Structural System
The Nile City is supported on steel columns these steel columns will
transmit there loads to foundation, to ensure stability of the structure

4. Loading Criteria
4.1 Dead Load
Self-weight of steel members (taken by sap2000).

4.2 Wind Load

Wind density (Q)= 68 Kg/m2

q=0.5*10-3*v2*Ct*Cs=0.5*10-3*332*1.25*1*1=0.068 t/m2

K=1

Ce = 0.8(comp.) &0.8(suc.)

Pe=Ce*K*q

wl = 0.8*1*68/1000= 0.054 t/m2

Using reduction factor 0.7 (permeability)

F=0.7x0.054=.037 t/m2

5. Load Combinations
Load cases and combinations were generated according to ECP

D+wl (Eq.2.4.1-1)

D-wl (Eq.2.4.1-2)

6. Structural Material
All structural Steel used is st37 with the following specifications:

Minimum yield strength Fy = 2.4 t/cm2

Minimum ultimate strength Fu= 3.6 t/cm2
