ECONOMIC OVERVIEW
• Gross domestic product (GDP) of the United States (US) contracted an annualised 0.6% on-quarter in the second quarter of 2022, compared with a 1.6%
decline in the first quarter
• The US Federal Reserve (Fed), in its September monetary policy meeting, raised its target interest rate by 75 basis points (bps) for the third consecutive time
to a range of 3-3.25%. The central bank also signalled its intention to stay in the path of a larger hike to 4.40% by 2022-end and 4.60% in 2023 to battle
continued strong inflation
• US Treasury prices declined in September, with the yield on the 10-year bond settling at 3.80% on September 30, 2022 compared to 3.13% on August 31,
2022
• Prices fell as investors continued to bet that global central banks might adopt aggressive approach for rate hikes in the future
• Yield advanced further after the European Central Bank (ECB) hiked interest rates by 0.75%, raising its deposit to 0.75% from zero, in a bid to clamp down
inflation
• Prices witnessed more sell-off after the Federal Reserve raised interest rates by another 0.75% and indicated that it will keep hiking rates until the funds level
hits a "terminal rate," or an end level of 4.6% next year
• Sentiments were also dented after Fed Chair Jerome Powell said the bank needed to take much more aggressive measures to combat red-hot inflation and
was prepared to put some pressure on the economy and the job market as a result
• However, the decline in prices of safe-haven bonds was halted after the Fed's Beige Book data showed economic activity remained little changed and growth
outlook is still weak

• India's GDP grew 13.5% in first quarter of fiscal 2023, fastest pace of growth in a year, compared with 4.1% in the January-March quarter
• In gross value-added terms, the economy grew 12.7% compared with 3.9% in the previous quarter
• The agriculture sector grew 4.5% versus 4.1% in the January-March period
• The manufacturing sector expanded 4.8%, versus a contraction of 0.2% in the previous quarter, and mining grew 6.5% compared with 6.7%
• The construction sector grew 16.8% versus 2% growth in the previous quarter. Electricity and other public utilities grew 14.7% versus 4.5%
• CRISIL estimates India's GDP growth at 7.3% for this fiscal compared with an estimated 8.7% for the past fiscal. Growth will continue to be supported by
investment (largely government, but also private in some pockets, and driven by the Performance-Linked Incentive scheme to an extent). Growth will also be
broad-based as contact-intensive services have started contributing to growth. High commodity prices and slower global growth, however, have added
downside risks to growth. Private consumption would rise gradually amid headwinds from higher inflation

ECONOMIC
OVERVIEW
• Indian equity indices snapped two months' gains in September, with the benchmarks S&P BSE Sensex and Nifty 50 falling over 3.5% each on-month due to
global economic growth concerns. However, on a quarterly basis, the benchmarks rose 8% each
• Markets declined due to weaker-than-expected domestic GDP data and dismal core sector output data for August.
• India's GDP grew 13.5% on-year in the April-June quarter of 2023 compared with 4.1% in the previous quarter. The corresponding April to June quarter of last
year had recorded a GDP growth of 20.1%.
• Sentiment was dented further after core sector output slowed down to 4.5% in July compared to upward revision of 13.2% in June and 9.9% in the year-ago
period
• Losses were also seen after the government raised taxes on fuel exports and domestic crude. The government has hiked the windfall profit tax on the export of
diesel to Rs 13.5 per litre and on jet fuel exports to Rs 9 a litre, besides raising the levy on domestically produced crude oil in line with the hardening of global
prices
• Markets were also under pressure after foreign institutional investors (FIIs) resumed selling Indian equities after buying of two consecutive months. FIIs sold
equities worth Rs 76 billion in September compared with buying of Rs 512 billion in August
• Among global cues that kept investors under water there were worries over slowdown in global economic growth and recession risk due to more aggressive
monetary policy tightening by central banks. The Fed and the Bank of England continued with their hawkish policy stance and raised rates to control inflation
• The Fed, at its September monetary policy meeting, raised its target interest rate by 75 bps for the third consecutive time to a range of 3-3.25%. The central
bank also indicated it would stay in the path of larger hikes to 4.40% by 2022-end and 4.60% in 2023 to battle continued strong inflation
• The Bank of England raised its key interest rate by 50 bps to 2.25%, the 7th consecutive rate hike. Bank of England Governor Andrew Bailey said the central
bank will not hesitate to raise interest rates if needed to meet its 2% inflation target
• An unexpected spike in US inflation also kept the indices under pressure. US consumer prices surged 8.3% in August compared with a year earlier
• The European energy crisis and Russia's escalation of war in Ukraine also took the market lower
• A further fall in the markets was cushioned after the RBI Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) hiked its key policy rate for the fourth straight time to bring down
persistently high inflation
• The MPC raised the policy repo rate under the liquidity adjustment facility by 50 bps to 5.90%. It also raised the standing deposit facility rate to 5.65%, and the
marginal standing facility rate and the bank rate to 6.15% and assured to shield the economy from global headwinds. RBI governor Shaktikanta Das said
India's external position is better in emerging markets and the RBI is prepared to defend any volatility arising out of actions by the central banks of advanced
economies
• Upbeat domestic service activity in August also trimmed losses by fuelling hopes for economic growth. The service Purchasing Managers' Index accelerated
to 57.2 in August from July's 4-month low of 55.5, on stronger expansion in new work intakes, upturn in business activity, and the sharpest rise in
employment for over 14 years
• Intermittent fall in global crude oil prices also aided the rally
• Buying by domestic institutional investors (DIIs) also elevated market. DIIs bought equities worth Rs 141 billion in September compared with selling of Rs 71
billion in August.
• All S&P BSE sectoral indices declined in September, except for fast-moving consumer goods and healthcare sectors. The energy sector was the biggest
laggard after the government hiked taxes on fuel exports and domestic crude.
• S&P BSE Oil & Gas and S&P BSE Realty fell 9% each, S&P BSE Metal 6%, S&P BSE IT 5%, S&P BSE Auto 4%, S&P BSE PSU and S&P BSE Capital goods
declined 3% each, S&P BSE Bankex 2% and S&P BSE Consumer durables 1%. Meanwhile, S&P BSE FMCG and S&P BSE Healthcare rose 1% each

ECONOMIC
OVERVIEW
OVERVIEW ON GOLD
• Gold prices fell 1.73% to Rs 50,302 per 10 gram on September 30, 2022, from Rs 51,188 on August 30, 2022, as per the India Bullion and Jewellers
Association.
• Domestic prices tracked global metal prices as global central banks stuck with their aggressive monetary policies.
• Intermittent strength in the US dollar index also weighed on prices.
• However, losses were capped on safe-haven demand ahead of the festive season in the domestic market and due to sporadic rupee depreciation.

Benefits of Systematic Investment Plan (SIP) - SIP Performance of Select Schemes
Returns shown for Growth Option as on 30 September, 2022
The Fund offers flexible and convenient Systematic Investment Plan (SIP) facility. To illustrate the advantages of SIP investments, this is how your investments would have grown if you had invested say
Rs. 10,000 systematically on the first Business Day of every month over a period of time in the Growth Option of Respective Scheme.
The returns are calculated by XIRR approach assuming investment of Rs 10000/- on the 1st working day of every month. XIRR helps in calculating return on investments given an initial and final value
and a series of cash inflows and outflows with the correct allowance for the time impact of the transactions.
