Announcement Date: 14 April 2022 Due Date: 21 April 2022
Instructions:

1. Assignment should be hand written.

2. Copied assignments will be marked zero.
3. CR will collect all the assignments (on due date) and submit to me in my office before closing hours.
4. Assignment is not acceptable after deadline.
5. Assignment presentation also contains marks (Good presentation does not mean over decoration).
6. Do not use files and folders.
Tasks: Attempt all questions.

Question 1:
Write the system of linear equations that corresponds to the following problem. Using the Gauss-Jordan
elimination method on the augmented matrix of the system, identify the row operations at each stage needed to
find the solution.

A factory produces tables, chairs and bar stools. It takes 12 minutes to assemble each chair and 15 minutes to
apply the finish. It takes 4 minutes to assemble each table and 9 minutes to apply the finish. It takes 10 minutes
to assemble each bar stool and 12 minutes to apply the finish. Determine the number of tables, chairs, and bar
stools to be built if the assembly line is available for twelve hours and the finishing bench is available for fifteen
and a half hours. We need four times as many chairs as tables, and the available times of the assembly line and
finishing bench must be used up completely.

Question 2

Determine the conditions on 𝑎, 𝑏, 𝑐 (by using row reduction algorithm) so that the following systems are consistent and find any
solutions.

Question 3

Formulate the following problem and find the unknown currents in the circuit by Gaussian elimination.
Question 4

Find the rank of the following matrix:

Question 5

Suppose we are making three types of sandwiches. The ingredients are:

Sandwich 1: 2 slices of bread, 4 ounces of peanut butter and 4 ounces of jelly.
Sandwich 2: 2 slices of bread, 3 slices of ham and 2 slices of cheese.
Sandwich 3: 2 slices of bread, 3 ounces of peanut butter and 4 slices of cheese.
Find a matrix which represents the above data.
Bread slice costs 0.12 $ and contains 200 calories, peanut butter per ounce costs 0.15 $ and contains 350
calories, Jelly per ounce costs 0.10 $ and contains 510 calories, Ham slice costs 0.30 $ and contains 250 calories
and cheese slice costs 0.25 $ and contains 400 calories.
Find the total cost of each sandwich and the calories it contains.

Question 6

Balance the following chemical equation with the help of homogeneous system.
