TOPIC 4 – WHAT MAKES A PERSON SUCCESSFUL?

What makes a person successful or not is an issue on which there is a wide range
of opinions. Success is the most desired feeling that all of us want to experience in the
pursuit of our goals and also in day to day life. Apparently, every individual has his or
her own definition of success. Success is primarily the result of establishing a clear
plan and having a positive attitude to achieve the result.
One of the most common causes that makes a person successful is goal setting.
This is the first step in turning their dream into reality. With a specific goal, people
have the main object to focus on and keep them going on the right track to reach
achievement. By knowing exactly what is their goal, they recognize where they have
to put their efforts as well as rapidly find the distractions that lead them astray.
Besides, setting relevant goals also assist people to achieve target quickly. Because
people tend to set broadly scattered goals, they easily confuse to choose the most
important goal to do and waste too much time on each one. In addition, setting
attainable goals provide people more confidence, more motivation to go ahead and get
their achievement. If they make a target that is too hard to accomplish or be far
beyond what they can do, they will be depressed and want to give up.
Another cause is attitude. The road to success has a lot of challenges and
obstacles, but successful people will never give up. They are always willing to fail so
that they can have more experience for their path in the future. For instance, great
people such as Jack Ma, Albert Einstein, Bill Gates, Walt Disney, …who have
positive impact on our life nowadays always try the best to move on despite
successive failures. Besides, positive thinking is one of the traits that make a person
successful. Many successful people always think positive and expect the best for their
goals. In fact, if you don’t believe in what you do, you are a loser right from the start.
Because of lack of faith in your path, you will easily change lots of goals with your
impatience and you will never find the most suitable choice for your path. Moreover,
optimists will never give up and continue to work hard to protect their dreams even
though other people tell them it is impossible. For example, Steve Job is a person like
that. When he launched iPhone and iPad, many people did not believe that he could
succeed. However, he was very confident in his products he sold, which leads to the
success of Apple nowadays. Finally, successful people are continuous learners. They
learn from failures to have more experience for avoiding the same mistakes in the
future. On the other hand, they always continue learning from reading books and
improving their skills. High achievers recognize that if they’re not continually getting
better, they’re getting worse. This means that if they don’t change and improve
themselves every day, their competitors will go before them.
In conclusion, having a goal will help a person achieve success faster.
Furthermore, it is the attitude of a person that becomes the threshold for him to propel
and succeed in whatever he wants to.
