A Demonstration Lesson Plan in Grade 7 - Mathematics

Teacher : Audrey Dawn J. Calibuso

Teaching Date : March 29, 2023

I. OBJECTIVES:
A. Content The learner demonstrates understanding of key concepts of geometry of shapes
Standard and sizes, and geometric relationships.
B. Performance The learner is able to create models of plane figures and formulate and solve
Standard accurately authentic problems involving sides and angles of a polygon.
C. Learning
The learner illustrates polygons: (a) convexity; (b) angles; and (c) sides.
Competency
LC Code M7GE-IIIe-2
Applied a range of successful strategies that maintain learning environments that
Focus Indicator motivate learners to work productively by assuming responsibility for their own
learning
D. Learning The learners will be able to:
Objectives 1. Differentiate regular polygon from non-regular polygon.
2. Identify the measurement of the sides and angles of a regular and non-
regular polygon.

Prayer
Let us all stand for our opening prayer
and I will give one minute to say your
own prayer.

Greetings
Good morning class! Good morning, Ma’am!

Before you take your seats, kindly

arrange your chairs properly and pick up
any pieces of paper or trashes in your
surroundings then put it in the trash
bin.

Is there any nearsighted or has a hearing

impairment in the class?

If none, please be seated.

Is everyone present? No absents? Very

good.

ELICIT Yesterday we had an activity where
(Accessing Prior each one of you created and named your
Knowledge) own convex and concave polygon. Also,
you were able to tell the sides and angles
of each polygon. Now, I have these two
quadrilateral polygons, named WXYZ
and ABCD. Let us identify the sides and
angles of each polygon.

Figure A
W Z Figure A
Sides: WX, XY, YZ, ZW
Angles: <W, <X, <Y, <Z

X Y

Figure B
A B
Figure B
Sides: AB, BC, CD, DA
Angles: <A, <B, <C, <D
D C

Good Job everyone!

ENGAGE Based on these two figures, let us

(Getting focus compare the two polygons and look for
on the topic) their similarities and differences. What
have you observed?

Figure A Similarities:
W Z - They are quadrilateral polygons.
- Equal number of sides.

X Y Differences:
- They have different names; Figure A
is a quadrilateral WXYZ while Figure
Figure B B is quadrilateral ABCD.
A B - They are not in the same shape.
- Figure A has equal sides and equal
angles.
- Figure B has different measure of
D C angles and sides.

Very Good everyone!

Now let us measure the sides and

angles of Figure A and Figure B to
determine if they really have the equal

side and angle or not.
Figure A
Sides: All sides are 6cm
Angles: All angles are 90°

Figure B
Sides: AB = 4cm, BC = 3 cm, CD=6cm,
DA=3cm
Angles: <A = 105, <B= 105, <C=75, <D=75

EXPLORE To better understand our lesson let us

common ruler.
experience) This activity is called Measuring Angles
and Sides. I will give two polygons and
you have to find the measures of each
sides (cm) and angles (degrees).

EXPLAIN Based on our activity called Measuring

(Teaching the Angles and Side, if we were to compare
concept with the two polygons, what have you
teacher-student observed? Possible Answers:
interaction) - Polygon 1 has equal sides and
equal angles.
- Polygon 2 do not have equal
sides and angles.
- Polygon 1 and Polygon 2 is a
Hexagon, but they have
different measure of sides and
angles.
Thank you everyone, you all are correct!

Polygons with all sides and angles are
equal is what we called a Regular
Polygon while Irregular Polygon is a
polygon who do not have equal sides
and angles.

ELABORATE To test your learnings about a regular

(Applying the polygon and irregular polygon let us
information have our last activity. With the same
learned under group create your own regular and
“EXPLAIN”) irregular polygon with no less than
five sides. I will give you 5 minutes to
finish the activity you may start now.

Pens up, now briefly present your

work in the class. State the common
name of your polygon and if it is a
regular or irregular polygon.

Good Job everyone, give yourselves a

“Wow Galing clap”.
EVALUATE The teacher will test students’ learning through a simple paper-and-pencil test.
(Assessing
students’ Fill in the Blanks. In a ¼ sheet of paper, fill the missing sides and angles of the
learning) given polygon.
