What is celebrated on the 4th of July and why is this

date so important?

The Independence Day of the United States (Independence Day or The Fourth
of July in English), is the national holiday celebrated on July 4 in the United
States.

This day marks the signing of the Declaration of Independence in 1776 in which
the country declared its formal separation from the British Empire. It is usually
celebrated with many outdoor activities such as parades, baseball games, and
fireworks displays. It is the traditional date of various races and events.

Let's talk a little about the historical context:

During American independence, the legal separation of the Thirteen Colonies

from Great Britain occurred on July 2, 1776, when the Western Second
Congress voted to pass an independence resolution that had been proposed in
June by Richard Henry Lee (American politician of the time) of Virginia
declaring the United States independent. After voting for independence,
Congress turned its attention to the Declaration of Independence - a statement
explaining this decision - which had been prepared by a committee of five, with
Thomas Jefferson as its main author. Congress debated and revised the text of
the Declaration, finally approving it on July 4.
Why is the independence of the United States so important?

The independence of the United States of North America is one of the most
important events in modern history, not only because it served as an example to
the Spanish-American colonies that also aspired for their liberation and
emancipation; but, fundamentally, because of the preponderant role that the
country of Washington plays in the destinies of the world in contemporary times.

How is this date celebrated?

Independence Day is a national holiday marked by patriotic displays. Similar to

other summer festivities, Independence Day celebrations often take place
outdoors. Independence Day is a federal holiday, so all non-essential federal
institutions (such as the postal service and federal courts) are closed on that
day. Many politicians take advantage of this day to appear at a public event and
praise the nation's heritage, laws, history, society, and people.

If the holiday falls in the middle of the week, some fireworks displays and
celebrations may take place over the weekend for convenience, again, which vary
by region. The first week of July is typically one of the busiest American travel
periods of the year, as many people use the holidays for extended travel.
