Well Control Procedures for Non-Shearables

Purpose and Objective
The primary purpose of this Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) is to serve as a contingency plan reference
for the Drill Site Managers (DSM’s) for all non-shearable tubular operation during well control.

Scope
This document applies to all Chevron Pacific Indonesia (CPI) drilling rigs operating in all SMO area. These
procedures are limited to non shearable operations that are commonly executed in CPI area.

PROCEDURE

Well Control Procedure for Stabilizer

1. Stab in FOSV.
2. Space out to avoid non sealing tubular/stabilizer across BOP stack.
3. Shut in well with annular BOP.
4. If pipe light issue becomes a potential problem, drop the tubular/stabilizer and shut in well with blind
ram/blind shear.

Well Control Procedure for drill collars

1. Stab in FOSV.
2. Shut in well with annular BOP
3. If could not seal or pipe light issue becomes a potential problem, drop drill collars and shut in well with
blind ram/blind shear.

Well Control Procedure for Casing

1. Prior to run casing, reduce annular closing pressure as per guidance.
2. Shut in well with annular BOP
3. If pipe light issue becomes a potential problem, drop drill casing and shut in well with blind ram/blind
shear.
4. Install casing swadge equipped with ball valve/low torque valve.

Well Control Procedure for directional equipment

1. Stab in FOSV.
2. Space out to avoid non sealing tubular across BOP stack.
3. Shut in well with annular BOP.
4. If pipe light issue becomes a potential problem, drop the tubular and shut in well with blind ram/blind
shear.
