Introduction:

The structure is consists of 18 members + 6 Suspension Cables, as shown:

a. Assume any missing data.
b. Set your Units system to (MMGS).
c. Save your work frequently to avoid losing any of your work.
d. Suspension Force FT is identical in all cables.

Given:

For the attached weldment structure, complete the following requirements:

1. Select material AISI 1020 Steel, cold Rolled.
2. The bridge is fixed on 4 joints as shown in Fig. 1.
3. The Concentrated Force FC is applied equally on the 3 rectangular tube as shown in Fig. 2.
4. The Distributed Force FD is applied equally on the 2 horizontal Sb Beams as shown in Fig. 3.

Questions:

1. Run the simulation analysis with FC=1 KN (without using the suspension cables).Fill
Table 1 with all requested data.
2. Complete the simulation analysis to find the maximum vertical force FC (without using the
suspension cables) that give you a Factor of Safety FS = 2±0.01. Fill Table 2 for each design
Step.
FC = ……………….KN.
3. Run the simulation analysis using FC (from question 3) and find the optimized tensile
suspension force FT in the cables (see instruction (f) in the introduction) that will give you
the maximum Factor of Safety FSmax. Fill Table 3 for each design Step.
FT = ……………….KN.
FSmax =……...………..
4. Run the simulation analysis with the suspension cables FT (from question 4) and
maximum vertical force FC (from question 3) to find the Maximum Distributed Forces FD
(KN/m) which can be applied vertically downward on the 2 horizontal Sb Beams to fulfil
the design constraints taken into consideration a Factor of Safety FS = 1±0.01. Fill Table 4
for each design Step.
FD = ……………….KN/m.
5. Save the Part and submit it to the Moodle.
