Denture Lab Report

I. Introduction:
The purpose of this experiment was to investigate the effect of temperature on the reaction of denture tablets
with water. The experiment was conducted by adding denture tablets to warm tap water, cool tap water, and
iced tap water, and observing the reaction at each temperature. The goal was to determine how temperature
affects the speed and intensity of the reaction, as well as any changes in the appearance or properties of the
resulting solution.

The chemical change that occurred in this experiment was the reaction between the denture tablet and the
water. The denture tablet is designed to dissolve in water to release cleaning agents and other substances that
help to clean and deodorize dentures. When the denture tablet was placed in water, it underwent a chemical
reaction that caused it to dissolve, releasing the cleaning agents and other substances. This chemical reaction
involved the breaking of chemical bonds in the tablet and the formation of new chemical bonds between the
tablet and the water molecules. This reaction is an example of a chemical change, as it resulted in the forma-
tion of new substances with different properties than the original substances.

The rate of chemical reactions is influenced by factors like that of temperature. This is because temperature
is an essential factor that affects chemical reactions because it affects the kinetic energy of the reacting
particles.

The denture tablet is a small, circular, and white tablet that is used to clean dentures. It is composed of vari-
ous chemicals, including sodium bicarbonate, citric acid, sodium carbonate, sodium perborate, and sodium
polyphosphate. When the tablet is added to water, it dissolves and undergoes a chemical reaction that pro-
duces carbon dioxide gas. This reaction is due to the interaction between the citric acid and sodium bicarbon-
ate in the tablet, which produces carbon dioxide gas as a by-product. The gas then forms bubbles, which help
to clean the dentures by removing any food particles or debris.

Hypothesis: If the temperature of water is increased, then the reaction between the denture tablet and water
will be faster because the kinetic energy of the reacting particles will increase.
