IV. PROCEDURES

Good morning Grade Six. Today, we will help clean the land of
rubbish. Do you know what the word rubbish means? (Collecting
learners’ ideas). Rubbish means waste materials. So where can we
find the waste materials? (After the learners convey their answers the
teacher will then show a photo of dumpsites and trash bins). What can
A. Reviewing
you say about the place? This place is a piece of land where waste
Previous Lesson /
Drills or Presenting materials are dumped or kept. But before we will start cleaning, let us
The New Lesson find out what are the materials that we might find in these areas.

Are you ready?

The teacher will show a photo of a dumpsite and let learners to list
down all the materials they found in the picture.

B. Establishing a 1.Based on the list you made, do you know where the materials are
from or made?
2. What are these materials made of?
{wood, paper, plastic and metal}

The teacher will group the students into 4 groups. Each group will be
given a chart where they will write the materials found in their list in
different category.

Purpose for
the Lesson

Before we continue with our cleaning mission, let’s have another

activity to loosen up our mood

Integration in SCIENCE

The teacher will let the students to find the pictures hidden inside the
classroom and let them paste it on the board.

The teacher then asks a few comprehension questions:

C. Presenting 1. What do you see on the board?
Examples /
Instances of New
2. Which of these following materials will decompose/decay and will
Lesson not ?
(Biodegradable waste is a type of waste, typically originating from
plant or animal sources, which may be degraded by other living
organisms. Non-biodegradable wastes are those that cannot be
decomposed or dissolved by natural agents. They remain on earth for
thousands of years without any degradation.)
3. What will happen if these materials will be dump or thrown
everywhere?
4. Is there any way to prevent this to happen in our surrounding?
5. If YES, then HOW?
D. Discussing New Now lets proceed with our task!
Concepts
and Practicing Integration in SCIENCE
New Skills #1
Every day, tons and tons of waste materials all over the world are
being disposed. Different waste materials are thrown without a doubt.
And now, we are experiencing the so-called Greenhouse effect. The
greenhouse effect is the way in which heat is trapped close to Earth's
surface by “greenhouse gases.” These heat-trapping gases can be
thought of as a blanket wrapped around Earth, keeping the planet
toastier than it would be without them. Greenhouse gases include
carbon dioxide, methane, nitrous oxides, and water vapor. (Water
vapor, which responds physically or chemically to changes in
temperature, is called a "feedback.") So, what can we do to help our
Mother Earth?
Waste Management is the answer for this. Waste management is
planning, controlling and assessing all types of wastes that can be
regulated in order to minimize these wastes.
To, lessen wastes, the government and non-government, battle cry for
Reduce, Reuse and Recycle Program. The goal here is to lessen
waste because increasing waste is a threat to our environment causing
pollution, disease and other environmental problems.

The teacher shows through a powerpoint presentation the 3R’s

>Reduce- means we need to lessen what we throw away like
plastics, paper and plastic bottles
>Reuse- means we need to use what we throw for another
purpose like plastic bottles to be containers of some liquid
ingredients
>Recycle- means to create waste materials into something
useful or functional like tissue tubes to be pen holders,
shampoo sachets can be simple bags or wallet.

I have here photos of different materials and name it. What can you do
with the following items?

1. 4.

2. 5.

3.

What do you think will be the good effect of following the proper waste
management and the bad effect if we will not apply the proper waste
management?

In the same group, each group will solve the picture puzzle.

E. Discussing New Waste can be found at home, in school, and in the community and
Concepts and Practicing should be manage properly to reduced waste, to prevent diseases or
New Skills # 2 illnesses and to maintain a healthy environment.

Below are the benefits of it:

1. Maintain healthy environment
2. Decreases pollution
3. Conserves energy, landfill space and natural resources
4. Save Mother Earth
F. Developing Mastery Read and answer the question at the end of the poem.
{leads to Formative
Assessment # 3}
What You Can Do

When you see litter in the streets

And the air smells of pollution
When you feel like it is all pilling up
Remember there is a solution

There something each of us can do

To keep the rivers clean
To keep fresh air we breathe
And keep the forests green

Help clean a beach

Or recycle bottles and cans
Learn about the problems we face
And help others understand
It doesn’t have to be a lot

If we each just do our share

So take time out on Earth Day
To show the Earth you care

Question:
Enumerate the things you can do to show that you care our mother
earth.
What are the simple things you can do to help protect the
environment?

G. Finding Practical
Application of Concepts
and Skills in Daily Living

Questions:
1. What do we mean by pack a waste- free lunch?
2. How can we reduce the use of plastic bags for products or foods we buy?
3. Do you have another tip/ s that you can share?

What does proper waste management do for our health and the health
of our earth?

The more we manage our waste properly, the less garbage winds up
H. Making in our landfills and incineration plants.
Generalizations and
Abstractions About the
Lessons Remember:
We should classify our waste to properly manage them.
We should place them in the proper garbage container.
We can even reuse and recycle waste to reduced waste
problems.
I. Evaluating Learning Group I
A. Color the trash bins/containers with the appropriate color for the
type of waste. Use yellow, red, blue and green.
B. Place the trash/garbage in the appropriate container to observe proper
waste segregation. Write the letter of the picture in the containers found in
part A.
