1. The old garment (vv. 17-19)
• No longer walk as the Gentiles • Darkened understanding • Hardened hearts • Calloused in sensuality “Therefore God gave them up in the lusts of their hearts to impurity.” – Romans 1:24 “Therefore God gave them up in the lusts of their hearts to impurity.” – Romans 1:24 “…God gave them up to dishonorable passions.” – Romans 1:26 “Therefore God gave them up in the lusts of their hearts to impurity.” – Romans 1:24 “…God gave them up to dishonorable passions.” – Romans 1:26 “God gave them up to a debased mind to do what ought not be done. They were filled with all manner of unrighteousness…” – Romans 1:28-29 “What shall we say then? Are we to continue in sin that grace may abound? By no means! How can we who died to sin still live in it? Do you not know that all of us who have been baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? “We were buried therefore with him by baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in newness of life.” – Romans 6:1-4 Put Off, Put On Ephesians 4:17-24

2. The new garment (vv. 20-24)
• You have learned Christ • You are to obey Christ “Turn your eyes from worldly desires. You were made for higher things. The regenerate heart will never find satisfaction in a fallen world.” – Paul Washer “Do not be deceived: neither the sexually immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor men who practice homosexuality, nor thieves, nor the greedy, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God. And such were some of you. “But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.” – 1 Corinthians 6:9-11 Spiritual growth is a journey of bringing our thinking and speaking and living and loving in line with what God has already made us in Christ. Put Off, Put On Ephesians 4:17-24
3. A word about grace and obedience
“His divine power has granted to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of him who called us to his own glory and excellence, by which he has granted to us his precious and very great promises, so that through them you may become partakers of the divine nature, having escaped from the corruption that is in the world because of sinful desire.” – 2 Peter 1:3-4 Through faith in Christ, God transforms you and enables you, through His Word and by His Spirit that lives in you, to live in loving obedience to Him from the heart.
