2. (a) (i) Let V be a vector space and dim V = n. If {v1, v2,....,vk} is a linearly
independent subset of V, then prove that there exist set {vk+1, vk+2,..., vn}  V

(ii) Define basis of a vector space. Extend A = {(1, 0, 1, 0), (0, –1, 1, 0)} upto a

(i) If U and W are two subspaces of finite dimensional vector space V, then
prove that dim(U + W) = dim(U) + dim(W) – dim(U + W).
(ii) Let B = {(2, 1, 0), (2, 1, 1), (2, 2, 1)}. Prove that B is a basis of R3 and
obtain co-ordinate vector of x = (1, 2, 1) relative to ordered basis B.
(b) Give the answer in brief : (any two) 4
(i) What is dimension of the subspace of R3 spanned by
{(–3, 0, 1), (1, 2, 1), (3, 0, 1)} ?
(ii) In a vector space R3, find co-ordinate vector of (3, 5, –2) relative to the
ordered basis B = {(1, 0, 0), (0, 1, 0), (0, 0, 1)}.
(iii) Find the basis of a subspace of R2, spanned by the set of vectors {(1, 2),
(2, 4), (3, 6)}.
