Analysis of the Poem:

The Poet is depressed due to some family issues. He is standing at the verge of chaos.

That unable state of the Poet has been clearly depicted through these verses.

Awake for hours and staring at the ceiling

Through the unsettled stillness of the night

He grows possessed of the obsessive feeling

That dawn has come and gone and brought no light.

The Poet has written this poem merely to tell how much disturbed and broken he is.

He has compared the stillness of his heart with that of night.

He is unable to sleep and has spent his whole night watching at the stars in the thoughts which
looking at the ceiling. He is so much absorbed in his sorrows.

William Blake has expressed this same feeling in following lines:

“Some are born to sweet delight

Some are born to endless night”

(William Blake , Songs of innocence)

The time passes so fast that the black cloth of the sky has changed into white thread.

The first ray of Sunlight has fallen on the face of the Poet and he has come to know that one

more night passed away and the dawn has again came without the hope of betterment.

The poet is just into this feeling of being useless one more day and he is not ready to face the
day because he knows that day has not brought anything positive in his life neither that day can
change him.

His days and nights continuously changes but he remains the same. The same person in the
same place sunken in the same thoughts.

The poet is just obsessed with this feeling that he is not growing positively and the sadness is
killing all the happiness of his life. He is alive outside but all the positions of emotions have been
taken over by despair , misery etc.

Poet has been into a mental trauma and he is trying to recover that but all in vain. He makes
himself motivated everyday but when he sees his environment . He again became depressed
and spent all of his days in the same condition .
