BRIEF LESSON PLAN IN ENGLISH 8

I. Learning Objectives
At the end of the lesson, the students should be able to;
1. Describe the short background of the author
2. Translate the poem into English
3. Explain the message of the poem in front of the class
II. Learning Content
A. Topic: Poem: Pag-usara (1922) by Vicente Ranudo
B. Time allotment: 60 minutes
C. Reference: English 8: World of Philippine Literature, pp. 55-65
D. Materials:
• Text visuals
• Power point presentation
• Poem copies
III. Learning Procedures
Teacher’s Activity
A. Preparation
Prayer
Checking of attendance of the students
B. Review
(The teacher will ask the students about the past discussions and let the
students to answer the following questions.)
C. Motivation
1. Who in the class here like reading poetry?
2. Those that compose their own piece, how about them?
D. Presentation/Lesson Proper
The teacher will discuss the poem entitled “Pag-usara (1922) by Vicente
Ranudo” and short background of the author.
E. Application
Group Activity: The teacher will group the students into four groups and let the
students to present the poem in front of the class. They will be graded
by the following criteria.
Criteria Points
Mastery 10pts.
Clarity and 10pts.
Expression
Interpretation 10pts.
Total points 30pts.

F. Generalization
The teacher will ask three to five of his/her students to summarize the poem and
let the students explain of what they have understand about the famous poem of
Vicente Ranudo entitled “Pag-usara (1922)”.
IV. Assessment/Evaluation
The teacher will let the students to translate stanza 10 of the poem into English.
Stanza 10
1. Ingna siya sa hinay nga usa ka hininginlan
2. sa nag-usarang pulo sa dagat sa kasakit
3. nagaluhod kanunay sa iyang alampoanan:
4. nag-ampo kang Bathala aron unta hatagan
5. ang nagtamay kaniya sa kalipay nga hingpit.
V. Assignment
Compose your own short poem in a one whole sheet of A4 size bond paper.
